Good choice but depends on what you are looking for

I like the apartment because of: 1) location (9th st), 2) amenities (not that I use them so much) like gym, pool, barbecue station, bonfire, free coffee, 3) structure (it is not a big complex so you always find someone to talk to in the lobby), 4) a lot of the people who live here became my friends (a lot of internationals too)

BUT: 1) the leasing office is not as flexible or helpful with residents as in other complexes 2) old people live here so depending on where your apartment is, you could receive noise complaints even just because you are watching a movie and laughing about it 3) There is only one conference room for the entire building

Terrible management office

The building office is super inflexible with some issues:

1. I had trouble registering my checking account to make the monthly rent payments. Because this error happened twice, I can't use the online portal again and so I need to talk to my bank to make direct payments to the building. They were neither flexible nor helpful. They are just following rules and harder to make the rent payments

2. There are some noicy leafblowers that start at 7am some days during the week

3. There is no cell reception in my apt

4. There are super inflexible with nice after 11pm

Great facilities but management can be a bit too much sometimes

Great choice for someone who wants to be on 9th street and around most of their class but not in the middle of the action

Great Location, Great Community

If you are looking to stay on 9th Street, but want to put the frat party vibe behind you then look no further. While 810 9th offers the same location in the heart of Old West Durham, it has a more mature and community-friendly distinction. For the class of 2022 alone we have about 50 students living here. The amenities, appliances, and floorplans are all just a bit better than S9 or B9, and so you'll pay for that in price. Overall I am very happy with my living situation.

Great location, Some noise, Amazon Hub

1) 9th St area is great if you are planning to live alone (especially if you don't have a car - it is fairly easy to get a ride from this area thanks to the large Fuqua population in this area).

2) You might suffer from noise (parties, leaf blowers...).

3) Amazon Hub is the best.

Convenient and pet-friendly apartment!

I've loved living at 810 Ninth over the past ~2.5 years. The apartment is conveniently located on Ninth Street with many awesome restaurants, ice cream shops, and a grocery store within walking distance. I particularly enjoy that I have never had to purchase a parking pass at Duke. The H2 bus (a 30 second walk from the apartment front door) runs from 5:30 am - 9 pm and comes every ~12 minutes. I also can bike to campus in under 10 minutes. Additionally, the apartment is super pet friendly - there's a dog park right outside my window, multiple poop bag stations around the building, and pet rent is $20/month. Management is awesome and very quick to respond to concerns/questions. In terms of noise, I have never heard my next door neighbors (who claim they have a dog that barks a lot - haven't heard him once!). To be honest, I have had recent issues with my upstairs neighbor (never an issue with the prior 2 sets of occupants in that apartment), but I think this is a rarity for this apartment building. The management has also given them multiple warnings and met with them regarding working out at 11 pm (lol).

Best place on Ninth Street!

I love living in 810 Ninth - it's the most recently updated of the Ninth Street apartment options and the maintenance / front desk are incredibly responsive and kind. It was a priority for me to live on Ninth Street because of how many Fuquans live in the area, and it's been incredibly rewarding to live near so many classmates...especially during COVID times.

Getting around Old West Durham

Old West Durham Reviews

9th Street is a fun, social area for Duke MBA students. It's where a lot of them live, and all of us go out, so it's fun to be in such a social area where all friends are just a short walk away (sometimes not even outside the building!). There are great nice and fast-casual restaurants around too. It's not the cutest neighborhood, but I found it more valuable to be where my future classmates would be living.
I have never felt unsafe in my neighborhood, even running by myself at different times of the day. I feel like people are generally kind and friendly, and it is very close to school. It feels very clean and is generally pretty quiet besides the train.
It is an excellent neighborhood mostly because of proximity to everything - from your friends, to grocery stores, to your hair shop!
Convenient location to other students -- it's easiest to catch rides to and from campus from 9th street. There is not good public transportation in Durham, so convenient location to other students and campus is key if you don't have a car. If you don't have a car, I highly encourage you to choose an apartment on 9th street.
Ninth Street is a great location! You are close to a grocery store, really good restaurants, and within a 5 minute drive from campus. My safety has never felt threatened here.
It is extremely close to a grocery store. It doesn't get better than that.
Lots of students, walking distance to Harris Teeter and some shops.
The 9th Street area is definitely where you want to live as a Duke student if you can afford it! All the restaurants and stores are less than a block from the complex.
