Great Spot for Grad Student

Great place to live as a DukeMed student! 10 minute bus or bike ride to the front of TSCHE. The bus (Duke's H2) runs all day and has a stop ~30 seconds from the apartment front door. Also conveniently located on Ninth Street (near grocery stores, restaurants, and bars).

In terms of amenities, nice gym (better than other complexes), great pool and grilling area, and free garage parking. Apartment itself is spacious and includes stainless steel appliances.

810 9th

I absolutely love living at 810 Ninth. The building is new and in excellent condition. The building is very pet friendly and has a dog park. The pool and gym are both excellent. The leasing staff is very friendly and helpful. They often organize cute events for residents like crepes or donuts for breakfast and game night socials. Maintenance requests are addressed promptly. Most of the residents are in their 20s and 30s. Some of the residents are senior undergraduates, who can at times be loud, but by and large the residents are respectful and the apartment is quiet. I can walk to two grocery stores, multiple restaurants, and half a dozen coffee shops from my apartment. There is a bus stop to Duke Hospital just across the street, which is very convenient for medical students and residents.

Great Place - Slightly Outside of the "Bubble"

810 9th (formerly Solis) is a smaller building on 9th street, compared to B9 and Station 9. It's located very close to all of the 9th street attractions (Harris Teeter, bars, etc.), but because it's a smaller building, you don't feel like you are living in a dorm room with hundreds of your classmates. Besides Fuquans, there are a lot of medical residents and students and law students that live in this building. We have a few non-Duke members of the community as well. The rent is reasonable/ comparable to the other buildings in the area and the property management is awesome and incredibly responsive. Overall, we are very happy living here!

Love 810

Staff is amazing, they are so nice and incredibly helpful. The space is always clean and quiet. Easy access to lots of different places and school. You are near all the other apartment complexes and east campus.

Great experience and a great deal

We have plenty of space and have had pretty good experience with the management company. We pay less for more than we would have gotten at s9/b9/bmain.

Great place to live

Whenever I have friends over from other complexes, they say how nice 810 is. It's close enough to S9/B9 that it's easy to go to all the socials but far enough away that you can have a quiet night in if needed. Plenty of other Fuquans living here too.

810 Ninth

Great amenities, pretty new building, common spaces kept clean, responsive management, thin walls, break-ins in the parking garage, loud fire trucks since near the fire station

Overall great

Overall a great experience. Biggest strength is that management is very responsive to any issues. The amenities are all very nice and the apartment building seems to be clean. The building is close to everything on 9th Street, but does not suffer from some of the loud noise & partying at a place like Station 9. Parking is easy, but recently we've had issues with vehicle break-ins. I'd like to see management do more to prevent this from happening, including installing a gate to enter the resident-only portion of the parking garage.

Great Apartment

This is a great apartment - large, lots of light, outdoor space, and amenities such as in-unit laundry, gym and pool in the building, etc. However, there have been a spat of car break-ins in the parking garage and while management has been responsive, it would be great if video cameras could be installed in the parking garage.

Pretty good but worried about the future

We've lived in Solis for two years and loved it for both years. It's in a great location, not completely overrun with Fuqua students (if you need some space), but close enough that you can walk over to Station 9 or Berkshire Ninth easily.

It has all the usual amenities (gym, covered parking, clubhouse, pool, grill station, tiny little pet area) which is great, but recently the apartment seems to be filling up with undergrads who are very loud. So I'd gather more information if that is something that you are sensitive to.

Getting around Old West Durham

Old West Durham Reviews

9th Street is a fun, social area for Duke MBA students. It's where a lot of them live, and all of us go out, so it's fun to be in such a social area where all friends are just a short walk away (sometimes not even outside the building!). There are great nice and fast-casual restaurants around too. It's not the cutest neighborhood, but I found it more valuable to be where my future classmates would be living.
I have never felt unsafe in my neighborhood, even running by myself at different times of the day. I feel like people are generally kind and friendly, and it is very close to school. It feels very clean and is generally pretty quiet besides the train.
It is an excellent neighborhood mostly because of proximity to everything - from your friends, to grocery stores, to your hair shop!
Convenient location to other students -- it's easiest to catch rides to and from campus from 9th street. There is not good public transportation in Durham, so convenient location to other students and campus is key if you don't have a car. If you don't have a car, I highly encourage you to choose an apartment on 9th street.
Ninth Street is a great location! You are close to a grocery store, really good restaurants, and within a 5 minute drive from campus. My safety has never felt threatened here.
It is extremely close to a grocery store. It doesn't get better than that.
Lots of students, walking distance to Harris Teeter and some shops.
The 9th Street area is definitely where you want to live as a Duke student if you can afford it! All the restaurants and stores are less than a block from the complex.
