I love Trinity!!

Trinity has really become a home to me over the last 3 years. Especially during COVID, I have really enjoyed my apartment for my work life, social life, and sleep life. Trinity does a TON of fun programming - they have a couple of workout classes a week (all outside and COVID safe), they have food trucks on Wednesdays, a coffee food truck on Fridays, and happy hours! It is such a fun place to live. There is a great gym, beautiful pool, luxurious sauna and steam room (for when there is not COVID). The only reason I give it a 9/10 is because sometimes things break (ex. light bulbs in the kitchen burn out quickly due to some wiring issue), but even this is okay because maintenance responds to service requests within 45 mins. Trinity is also right across from the hospital which I like because I go to school there.

Great location because it's close to campus, but overpriced

Mostly in the title. I like being able to walk to the hospital, the VA, and to campus, but I don't really use the amenities in the time of COVID and would prefer having someplace with a yard and more space for the amount of money I spend.

Great for first year living

Although it is a bit pricy, Trinity is a great place to live as a first year. Most first years live at the apartments of Erwin Rd, and it helps a lot with making friends during the first year. The gym membership, pool, parking lot, and other amenities are great perks, and the apartment also holds socials and workout classes. The rooms are a bit small but really functional (I wouldn't need more space). My one complaint would be that the walls are very thin so steps and movement transfer across floors and between rooms.

Close to campus and excellent amenities

Trinity Commons is within walking distance of Fuqua. They have great amenities and community activities. Additionally, it's next to a great shopping center with Chipotle, Noodles and Company, and many other restaurants.

Trinity Commons - good location, expensive for what you get

Trinity's best asset is that it is walking distance from campus and the hospital, so you don't have to worry about driving when tired. It has a large gym and high ceilings. However, certain things about the property are frustrating and don't seem to live up to the price. For example, the garage doors are often broken and do not seem to be fixed quickly.

Trinity Commons

I've loved living at Trinity Commons. The staff here is so friendly and helpful! They respond to maintenance requests almost immediately during business hours. They often host things in the lobby (halloween/holiday treats, hot chocolate, popcorn, etc.), and have started having biweekly group fitness (Zumba) classes. Best amenities in Durham, and the closest residency location to the hospital & medical school. The rent is more expensive than average in Durham, but for the location and amenities (and wonderful staff), it could be worth it for you.

Getting around Erwin - LaSalle

Erwin - LaSalle Reviews

430 reviews
It's been perfectly fine. People are nice but it's not much of a community, just a place where people live. Behind the Belmont which had a spate of robberies a few months back, but the Flats is further away from the main road and is better lit. So far no security incidents or concerns at the Flats. Affordability depends on which apartment complex you choose in the Erwin-LaSalle area. Wide range in rents, ranging from very expensive to very affordable depending on which one you pick.
The broader neighborhood's chief attribute is convenience to Duke. A lot of students live in the apartment complexes around here. It can be inconvenient sometimes getting to a supermarket from the neighborhood, though (eventually they're going to re-open a Harris Teeter on Hillsborough, which should mitigate this issue somewhat).
The neighborhood was perfectly fine when I started living there, but recently there have been some armed robberies in apartment buildings that are about a 10 minute walk away. However, I would like to say that I have not felt unsafe walking home at night and the security at Trinity is quite high. For example, you have to use a special key to get into the lobby (where a security guard sits after dark) and then you have to use the key to get in from the lobby to where the rooms are, and then again to get into your room. There are about 10 good restaurants within walking distance ranging from greek food to Mexican food to sushi so it's great for a quick dinner when you don't want to cook. There is also a hair salon and a manicure place, as well as a Walgreens pharmacy. We are very close to Duke Hospital and the bus systems are very accessible.
The apartments are close to campus and easily accessible through bus, bike, or walking if desired. There is a nearby Kroger that is a less than 5 min drive away just up LaSalle St. Overall, there are some older apartments further up the road that have had issues with crime in the past, but The Heights and other apartments around the area seemed to be insulated from those issues.
The food in the area is really accessible and I feel quite safe in the surrounding area, excluding the gas stations and bus stop. I've heard some odd things at night but never seen anything fishy and feel safe coming home at night. +Tons of dogs!
Lofts is right next to a few restaurants - TGIFridays, Chipotle, Enzo's, Noodles, Smash Burger, Sushi Love, etc. The Kroger grocery store is just a few minutes away, off of Lasalle. This is a quiet neighborhood.
Quiet neighbourhood. Conveniently located to West Campus and walking distance to Fuqua. Easy and healthy fast food options nearby. Close to food stores e.g. Kroger & Harris Teeter. Close to WaDuke trail.
Not the safest neighborhood and has little transit. There have been issues at other apartment complexes with safety, but Heights has been very safe. It is absolutely fine to walk around in the day here, but not at night. There are not very many restaurants or bars nearby, although downtown Durham is 10 minutes away.
