Lofts at Lakeview reviews and highlights
- friendly staff
- convenient location
- modern and new building with great amenities, finishes, and appliances
- free workout classes
- high ceilings
- a bit expensive but you get a lot of value for the price
Nice space, but far too expensive.
I've lived here all three years of law school. The apartments are nice, as is the building (mostly). The location is, I think, unbeatable. (Caveat: I don't own a car, so I needed to live within walking distance of the law school.)
In late-2023, the building came under new management. They're plenty responsive and friendly, but they hiked the price on EVERYTHING. My rent went up substantially, and they started slapping me with fees for parking (despite the fact that I don't own a car), amenities (which I don't use), and cable (even though I don't own a television). My sense is that rent in the area is rising generally, but the increase was staggering. Only the incovenience of moving and a few last-minute concessions on their part kept me from jumping ship.
If money's not an issue, it's a solid spot to live. But if you're balling on a budget, it'll wipe you out. I'm graduating in the red.

Not worth it
Price is at a luxury apartment's level but the facilities are just not worth it. Severe, severe, severe roach and ants problem (even after calling pest control service several times) - heard it's the worst among the buildings on Erwin Road. Also, the rent raise is just not reasonable, e.g. asking each tenant to pay for parking fees and cable fees even if we don't own a car/use cable service. The front door is locked after 6 pm and you have to detour to use the side doors. Some of the leasing office personnel are very rude. You can tell that the building is old by the corridor and the furniture. Some of the windows cannot be opened, and if I open the patio door, I'm just letting in more roaches and ants.
The good part is the room IS spacious. Fun decoration style and fancy lobby. The building has a mini-theatre (though the facilities are always "down" when asking if we can use it). Maintainence team responds quickly. Also, the building is within walking distance to the West Campus and close to the bus stops. Just not worth the price we're paying.

Close to campus but overpriced
Definitely overpriced. The buildings are old and poorly maintained, except for the main lobby and some amenities. I haven't seen as many bugs in my entire life as I've seen here in two months (I've lived in many cities across three continents). Their response is that we're in NC. Well, I've lived in Durham before in a more extensive apartment complex with more green spaces, and they managed to control it. While at The Lofts, there doesn't seem to be a willingness to do something about it so it's infested. The apartments' HVAC is shared, so whatever happens at your neighbor's apartment gets into yours (cigarettes, weed, etc.), and there isn't much they can do about it. Thus, your well-being depends on your neighbor. Main doors can be blocked open for days, but thankfully the neighborhood is rather safe. It's also close to campus.

I hate it here
I really cannot emphasize how terrible the management is. The building is dirty and the property managers are very rude. The price increases insanely every year with no improvement in amenities. There is no pest control and very poor maintenance service. Living here is a waste of money.

WORST BLDG EVER
DO NOT come to this bldg. Absolute waste of money. Owned by the most unprofessional and rudest management team. Overpriced, dirty, terrible management. Insects everywhere. Management team are extremely rude and unresponsive. Pest problem is a real issue here and every resident is struggling with it.

Lofts at Lakeview
The location of the Lofts is ideal for medical students, and the 2 bed/2 bath units are very spacious. The prices for 2 bed / 2 baths are also quite reasonable. It is also great to live by a lot of other Duke Med and other Duke Hospital-affiliated individuals. Keep in mind that in some of the units they call 2 bed / 2 bath, there may not be a door on one of the bedrooms. Additionally, the Lofts was recently acquired by a new company and new management team, and I have not had the best experience with them. Our apartment has had several major maintenance issues, and management was extremely uncooperative. If you have no maintenance issues, your experience may be much better.

Good apartment, great amenities
Nice big apartment with wak in closet and in unit washer and dryer, renovated likely in the 2000s. Two pools, gym, study area, complimentary tea and coffee, and movie theater with recline seats are some really nice amenities. Staff has been super friendly and helpful to me but some friends had some issues. There are not as many roaches as some other apartments but there are fruit flies. Look for another apartment if you have pets, there is pet rent, a pet deposit, and any cats have to be declawed. Good apartment, maybe not worth quite as much as they charge unless you’re looking for really good amenities. But highlight is one of the shortest walks to class, plus a huge food complex next door, making getting many kinds of food very easy!
