Great ammenities with lots of other med students. Probably has the best gym of the nearby complexes. The staff is also super friendly.

Trinity Commons is great!

From even before I chose Trinity Commons, the management staff was incredibly accommodating- answering all my questions on the phone and in person, etc. Now that I live here, they continue to answer all my questions and look into any concerns/service requests I have within that same day. The entire staff is incredibly friendly as well. I also wanted an apartment walking distance from the medical school, and it only takes ~10-15 minutes to walk there. I also wanted somewhere that was safe, since I am living alone. Trinity Commons is incredibly safe- you need a key to get into the parking garage, amenities, floors with the apartment rooms, etc. and there is a security guard onsite after hours. I have never felt unsafe, and I continue to feel relaxed and comfortable in my apartment complex.

Highly Recommend Trinity Commons

I have had a fantastic experience at Trinity Commons. The apartment complex is close to campus (I can walk to Fuqua in ~15 minutes), and is only 5 min drive to 9th Street, ~10 mins to downtown. Management and maintenance are very responsive. The amenities are great (awesome gym, hot tub, sauna, steam room, outdoor pool, indoor infinity pool, etc.) and the overall cost is less than the 9th Street apartments. Parking is included in a gated lot, and there is guest parking available. The apartment complex is clean and on the quieter side -- residents seem to be a mix of graduate students and working professionals. The apartment complex is also very secure. Overall, I would highly recommend Trinity Commons.

Great place to live

While a little on the higher end of rent compared to other apartment complexes, Trinity has definitely been worth it for me. There are great amenities and while unfortunately COVID has taken away some of the ability to use those, the management at Trinity is always doing events and COVID-safe things like outdoor workout classes, giveaways, happy hours, etc. Very convenient, short walk to the hospital.

Somewhat worth the price

Trinity is the closest apt complex to the Med school and the hospital and for that reason is hugely economical when you factor in not having to pay for parking or spend time driving to PG3 only to walk 15 more minutes onto campus. It is a nice, newer building with less problems with cockroaches or other structural issues but those still exist. It is also expensive. Trinity is known for the good amenities it includes but even though the gym is large, machines are frequently broken and supplies are missing. The sauna and steam room were broken for the better part of a year. Now, with COVID, rent has stayed the same even though many of these amenities we can't use. No utilities are included and in fact you have to pay for a trash service without options to opt out even if your apt is right next to the trash chute. However, they do a good job of fostering community and bring a lot of food trucks and coordinate other activities for the residents. The front desk people are really nice. So ultimately, you get what you pay for... convenience and no stress associated with living there, but still a lot of similar issues to other complexes.

Trinity

Management is problematic (lots of snafus, things going wrong). Residents often get trash fees for ridiculous reasons. There have been some bug issues, but that's NC. Otherwise, the place is great--just not really worth the price.

Better Than I Hoped

The apartment is large, clean, with good amenities. Great layout especially for roommates. Kitchen could be bigger, counter space-wise, but has good storage. Great amenities — gym is great, pool was great, parking is super convenient. Fantastic location. Worth the money, in my opinion.

Convenient but expensive

The apartment is very nice and the staff is great. The biggest perks are that it has a pool and gym, and that it is a less than 15 min walk to the med school. It is probably the most expensive option in walking distance, but there are a ton of med students in the building and the convenience is hard to beat.

Great management, maintenance, and amenities. Although being right next to Erwin Rd, it can be noisy at times

Getting around Erwin - LaSalle

Erwin - LaSalle Reviews

430 reviews
It's been perfectly fine. People are nice but it's not much of a community, just a place where people live. Behind the Belmont which had a spate of robberies a few months back, but the Flats is further away from the main road and is better lit. So far no security incidents or concerns at the Flats. Affordability depends on which apartment complex you choose in the Erwin-LaSalle area. Wide range in rents, ranging from very expensive to very affordable depending on which one you pick.
The broader neighborhood's chief attribute is convenience to Duke. A lot of students live in the apartment complexes around here. It can be inconvenient sometimes getting to a supermarket from the neighborhood, though (eventually they're going to re-open a Harris Teeter on Hillsborough, which should mitigate this issue somewhat).
The neighborhood was perfectly fine when I started living there, but recently there have been some armed robberies in apartment buildings that are about a 10 minute walk away. However, I would like to say that I have not felt unsafe walking home at night and the security at Trinity is quite high. For example, you have to use a special key to get into the lobby (where a security guard sits after dark) and then you have to use the key to get in from the lobby to where the rooms are, and then again to get into your room. There are about 10 good restaurants within walking distance ranging from greek food to Mexican food to sushi so it's great for a quick dinner when you don't want to cook. There is also a hair salon and a manicure place, as well as a Walgreens pharmacy. We are very close to Duke Hospital and the bus systems are very accessible.
The apartments are close to campus and easily accessible through bus, bike, or walking if desired. There is a nearby Kroger that is a less than 5 min drive away just up LaSalle St. Overall, there are some older apartments further up the road that have had issues with crime in the past, but The Heights and other apartments around the area seemed to be insulated from those issues.
The food in the area is really accessible and I feel quite safe in the surrounding area, excluding the gas stations and bus stop. I've heard some odd things at night but never seen anything fishy and feel safe coming home at night. +Tons of dogs!
Lofts is right next to a few restaurants - TGIFridays, Chipotle, Enzo's, Noodles, Smash Burger, Sushi Love, etc. The Kroger grocery store is just a few minutes away, off of Lasalle. This is a quiet neighborhood.
Quiet neighbourhood. Conveniently located to West Campus and walking distance to Fuqua. Easy and healthy fast food options nearby. Close to food stores e.g. Kroger & Harris Teeter. Close to WaDuke trail.
Not the safest neighborhood and has little transit. There have been issues at other apartment complexes with safety, but Heights has been very safe. It is absolutely fine to walk around in the day here, but not at night. There are not very many restaurants or bars nearby, although downtown Durham is 10 minutes away.
