Wonderful luxury living

The apartment is very luxurious with amazing amenities on property: Hot tub, sauna, pool, gym, game room. It is located across the street from the hospital. Management is incredible. They often have events for the residents including dinner, Breakfast, bingo with prizes. They are very responsive to maintenance requests. Even though it is expensive, it is definitely worth it (and with a roommate it is not so bad cost wise).

Very convenient location. Great gym. Expensive.

I love my personal apartment. I get tons of compliments on it with its high ceilings, wood floors, and decor. I love that I can walk to the hospital and to the Duke campus, especially on days when I need to be there at 5:30 am. The gym is fantastic, and I've never had to wait for a machine (though I do almost always see residents or classmates there, so something to keep in mind if you like your workouts to be private). The people who work at the front office are nice and generally accommodating when I need something fixed. I have never had ANY pest problems whatsoever. I also have A LOT of space, including a dedicated study room (opted for a slightly larger floorpan), which made studying during first year very easy.

That being said, there is a lot about Trinity that is not a great deal for the amount of money you spend, especially if you want to live alone. For example, there is a hot tub I have never used. And, there is a pool, but it is one I likewise have never used because it's near Erwin Rd in what feels like a very public location and I also saw a rat there once. And finally, there is a giant chess board that I am sure some of my rent is paying for to cement the ambiance of the place, but is that really necessary? Similarly, if you are a pet owner, the pet rent is $30 per pet.

Depending on where your apartment is, you may have some noise -- that is not a problem for me, but something to keep in mind if you're a light sleeper. There also isn't a lot of greenery around outside the window though you are close to campus. All in all, it's really lovely and convenient, especially if you don't have a car or prefer walking to school/work; I just think that your money can go much farther in Durham if you don't feel a need to be within walking distance. The building also can feel very large and a bit soulless despite the best efforts of management.

Luxury living close to hospital and med school!

Trinity is as close as you can get to the medical school and hospital (our parking is actually closer than the lot that MS1's have to be several hundred dollars to park in first year). It is a little more expensive than some other places in Durham but the price pays off with the location, safety and amenities like beautiful gym, pool, hot tub and sauna.

I love living in Trinity!

I love living in Trinity, and will not be changing apartments next year (and hopefully thereafter as well). It is about 10-15 minutes walking to Duke, is surrounded by great restaurants, and has unparalleled amenities. A personal favorite is the resistance pool, which is a great work out. I also really appreciate the staff - they are super receptive to feedback and are quick to deal with maintenance issues. All of ours have been resolved within 24 hours, and when we had a leak late at night, we had a maintenance person show up at our apartment within 45 minutes. There is a ton of free parking and guest parking is available on the 7th floor as well. In terms of our own apartment, it is quite expensive for the area but it is very large (almost 1600 square feet). It is two bedrooms, and we each have our own full bathrooms. Our kitchen is spacious enough for us both to be cooking at the same time, and our balcony, which overlooks the pool, fits 4 chairs and a small table. Other floor plans are cheaper but not as spacious. In addition, there are many levels of security and I have never felt unsafe going in/out of the apartment.

Don't live here

Management and maintenance are terrible and untrustworthy. Complex is dirty (has a cockroach/bug issue), repairs for the building take a long time (garage door was broken for 2 months). Office staff is rude. Townies come and use the gym. Also the residents are not friendly. Don't live here.

Great Location and Amenities

Great apartment complex with an unbeatable location relative to Fuqua. 10-15 minutes walking distance to Fuqua or less than five minutes driving. The apartments are some of the most well-appointed in the area and almost all units have hardwood floors. The community has all the features you could want, and I’ve been impressed with the variety of fitness equipment in the community gym. The building is also adjacent to several restaurants so there are plenty of weeknight dinner options when I’m in a hurry.

The community is relatively quiet and family friendly. I’ve never had any issues with noise and my 2 year old daughter does just fine here. The staff is generally very responsive and helpful with anything I need.

The only thing I don’t like is that the layout of the building is a little confusing, but that seems to be the trend with most large apartment complexes in Durham.

I would definitely recommend this apartment complex to anyone looking to be close to campus and the social scene but who is looking to avoid some of the noise that comes with some of the more popular apartment complexes.

Expensive Rent, Mediocre Experience; Convenient Location though

Perks:
- Really convenient location (food plaza right down stairs, and not so far from school)
- Good security inside the building* (not outside the building though, but Durham as a whole is a dangerous place)
- Fairly good management team and cleanness is fair

Weaknesses:
- Expensive rent (that does not include water, electricity, or Internet)
- An isolated building on the street
- Mandatory valet trash fee each month ($30/mo)
- Not designed for a comfortable living style

Getting around Erwin - LaSalle

Erwin - LaSalle Reviews

430 reviews
It's been perfectly fine. People are nice but it's not much of a community, just a place where people live. Behind the Belmont which had a spate of robberies a few months back, but the Flats is further away from the main road and is better lit. So far no security incidents or concerns at the Flats. Affordability depends on which apartment complex you choose in the Erwin-LaSalle area. Wide range in rents, ranging from very expensive to very affordable depending on which one you pick.
The broader neighborhood's chief attribute is convenience to Duke. A lot of students live in the apartment complexes around here. It can be inconvenient sometimes getting to a supermarket from the neighborhood, though (eventually they're going to re-open a Harris Teeter on Hillsborough, which should mitigate this issue somewhat).
The neighborhood was perfectly fine when I started living there, but recently there have been some armed robberies in apartment buildings that are about a 10 minute walk away. However, I would like to say that I have not felt unsafe walking home at night and the security at Trinity is quite high. For example, you have to use a special key to get into the lobby (where a security guard sits after dark) and then you have to use the key to get in from the lobby to where the rooms are, and then again to get into your room. There are about 10 good restaurants within walking distance ranging from greek food to Mexican food to sushi so it's great for a quick dinner when you don't want to cook. There is also a hair salon and a manicure place, as well as a Walgreens pharmacy. We are very close to Duke Hospital and the bus systems are very accessible.
The apartments are close to campus and easily accessible through bus, bike, or walking if desired. There is a nearby Kroger that is a less than 5 min drive away just up LaSalle St. Overall, there are some older apartments further up the road that have had issues with crime in the past, but The Heights and other apartments around the area seemed to be insulated from those issues.
The food in the area is really accessible and I feel quite safe in the surrounding area, excluding the gas stations and bus stop. I've heard some odd things at night but never seen anything fishy and feel safe coming home at night. +Tons of dogs!
Lofts is right next to a few restaurants - TGIFridays, Chipotle, Enzo's, Noodles, Smash Burger, Sushi Love, etc. The Kroger grocery store is just a few minutes away, off of Lasalle. This is a quiet neighborhood.
Quiet neighbourhood. Conveniently located to West Campus and walking distance to Fuqua. Easy and healthy fast food options nearby. Close to food stores e.g. Kroger & Harris Teeter. Close to WaDuke trail.
Not the safest neighborhood and has little transit. There have been issues at other apartment complexes with safety, but Heights has been very safe. It is absolutely fine to walk around in the day here, but not at night. There are not very many restaurants or bars nearby, although downtown Durham is 10 minutes away.
