Trinity Commons is amazing!

I love Trinity Commons! It is walking distance from campus, which is so convenient for class, weekly COVID tests, and for rotations during second year in the hospital. The apartment is incredibly safe- there is a security guard, you need keys to get into the apartment garage and floors, etc. I love my room, and it has the perfect amount of space and light. The entire management staff is incredibly responsive and kind, and all of my maintenance requests are completed within a day. There are so many events hosted for guests, and the amenities are great.

Living at Trinity

I live in a 2bed2bath at Trinity Commons and it is a great option for Duke Med students. It is only a ~10-15 minute walk from TSCHE, and there are a number of restaurants and businesses right across the street. However, the location comes with its downsides because the immediate surrounding area is not that great for walking (i.e., no neighborhood/community/park to walk in). The management is the best I've ever had; they always have fun events, they are very responsive and easy to work with, and they know your names! The amenities are great (resistance pool, sauna, courtyards, etc). Parking is included and is very convenient because the garage is also 7 floors like the building so you can park on the floor you live on.
Fairly major con is that it is expensive but comparable to surrounding apartment complexes.

Convenient, clean, and comfortable

Trinity Commons is located less than a 10-minute walk from the medical school. Staff are incredibly prompt, helpful and friendly and the amenities are kept clean and in good shape. Some of the apartments units show a little bit of wear but overall are clean and comfortable spaces to call home! Staff also host fun giveaways and events for residents nearly every week and bring local food trucks by often.

Floor plans are very variable in terms of sunlight (some get very very very little sunlight) and floor plan. Lots of cockroaches at times especially as it gets cold. Close to campus (10 min walk). Gym is nice but if something is broken then it takes a long time to fix (example: hot tub has been broken for months).

Trinity

Closest apartment to the medical school building. Walls are very thin and loud. Poor storage space and very bad kitchen storage space.

Very nice place to live!

I've really enjoyed living in Trinity! The location is great and I live close to many of my classmates. My boyfriend (non-med student) and I got a 2 bed 2 bath and he uses the second bedroom as an office because he works from home. However, I do occasionally hear far-off gunshots and temperature control is difficult because we have so many large windows.

Trinity

The service of the leasing office is very good. And this is one of the closest apartments from Duke.
However, smoking is strictly prohibited so this is a disadvantage for smokers. In addition, sometimes the fire alarm malfunctioned and it is super noisy.

Getting around Erwin - LaSalle

Erwin - LaSalle Reviews

430 reviews
It's been perfectly fine. People are nice but it's not much of a community, just a place where people live. Behind the Belmont which had a spate of robberies a few months back, but the Flats is further away from the main road and is better lit. So far no security incidents or concerns at the Flats. Affordability depends on which apartment complex you choose in the Erwin-LaSalle area. Wide range in rents, ranging from very expensive to very affordable depending on which one you pick.
The broader neighborhood's chief attribute is convenience to Duke. A lot of students live in the apartment complexes around here. It can be inconvenient sometimes getting to a supermarket from the neighborhood, though (eventually they're going to re-open a Harris Teeter on Hillsborough, which should mitigate this issue somewhat).
The neighborhood was perfectly fine when I started living there, but recently there have been some armed robberies in apartment buildings that are about a 10 minute walk away. However, I would like to say that I have not felt unsafe walking home at night and the security at Trinity is quite high. For example, you have to use a special key to get into the lobby (where a security guard sits after dark) and then you have to use the key to get in from the lobby to where the rooms are, and then again to get into your room. There are about 10 good restaurants within walking distance ranging from greek food to Mexican food to sushi so it's great for a quick dinner when you don't want to cook. There is also a hair salon and a manicure place, as well as a Walgreens pharmacy. We are very close to Duke Hospital and the bus systems are very accessible.
The apartments are close to campus and easily accessible through bus, bike, or walking if desired. There is a nearby Kroger that is a less than 5 min drive away just up LaSalle St. Overall, there are some older apartments further up the road that have had issues with crime in the past, but The Heights and other apartments around the area seemed to be insulated from those issues.
The food in the area is really accessible and I feel quite safe in the surrounding area, excluding the gas stations and bus stop. I've heard some odd things at night but never seen anything fishy and feel safe coming home at night. +Tons of dogs!
Lofts is right next to a few restaurants - TGIFridays, Chipotle, Enzo's, Noodles, Smash Burger, Sushi Love, etc. The Kroger grocery store is just a few minutes away, off of Lasalle. This is a quiet neighborhood.
Quiet neighbourhood. Conveniently located to West Campus and walking distance to Fuqua. Easy and healthy fast food options nearby. Close to food stores e.g. Kroger & Harris Teeter. Close to WaDuke trail.
Not the safest neighborhood and has little transit. There have been issues at other apartment complexes with safety, but Heights has been very safe. It is absolutely fine to walk around in the day here, but not at night. There are not very many restaurants or bars nearby, although downtown Durham is 10 minutes away.
