Good value and location

Great apartment and location for the price. Lots of other Wharton people in the building. Deal with Comcast for cable is a good value. Nice to have a gym on days when it's cold, rainy, or you're in a hurry. The people at the front desk are amazing. Maintenance is responsive and thorough. No dogs is nice. Quiet building.

Rooms overlooking Walnut may hear the trash being collected in the mornings. It's noisy. Also, some of the bay windows are noisy when the wind is blowing.

On the old side, but no issues at all

Lot to love:
1. Great location and nice view
2. Spacious for a studio!
3. Quick repair / maintenance service
4. 24/7 doormen who are delightful
5. Many students to share rides with to campus, lend/borrow emergency (and random) items from, etc.
6. Well organized (events, there is always someone at the lobby and front door, common areas are kept clean)
7. Great communication and easy payments with landlord
8. Online system is efficient

Could improve:
1. Unit should be cleaned and repaired (if necessary) before new tenant comes in ...make an obligation for landlords managing condo units
2. Windows shake with strong winds, making noise
3. Could have a common area to read, work, print, etc

Great accommodation

Great experience at Wanamaker House - doormen and maintenance staff are incredibly friendly and very responsive. Lots of Wharton students in the building which is nice. Location is amazing - close to Rittenhouse Square but only a 20-30 min walk to campus. Would recommend!

Great Location

I've loved living at the Wanamaker. The location has been excellent and although not one of the newer buildings in the area, the building is well maintained and has been a great place to live.

Good location, Could find better value

The Wanamaker is centrally located for Wharton students, which is why so many live here. It's also nice having a doorman for security, receiving packages, etc.

On the downside, the utilities are oddly pricey, the amenities a bit outdated, the pool policies obnoxious, and you can find more space for the price nearby.

Overall happy with my decision to live here, but may not have if I'd done more research.

Good location

No real complaints other than the fact that the building doesn't allow you to sublet during the summer.

Wanamaker is good value, but definitely not "premium" option

This building is good value for a high rise in the CC/RQ area with the amenities (e.g., lobby/front desk, etc.); however, there are definitely much nicer options that likely cost more.

You Can Get Cheaper, But I Don't Regret Choosing Wanamaker

Packages system could be run better. There are limits on when you can pick up packages and the system is not totally digitized / reliable. Can't have late parties. Skimpy on repairs in apartment - we are often charged for lightbulbs and things. Restrictions on when cars can park outside of Wanamaker so it's not always easy to get food deliveries.

Solid building

When I first moved into the Wanamaker, they were doing construction on the roof of the parking garage that shook most of the building. So loud I could not study and definitely could not sleep. That lasted for 1 week.

Since then (over a year ago), I have had no problems. The only surprising negatives have been 1) the pool is only open for about 3 months per year (June-August) and 2) the walls are so thin I can hear my neighbor's phone ring.

LOVE IT

Wannamaker has a great management team that takes care of your needs and address all issues within 24-48 hours. Although the place is pricey, it is good for young professionals like myself if one can afford it. There are amazing restaurants in the neighborhood which makes living here even more fun!

Rittenhouse Square Reviews

Walnut street is very safe - there's always people around and it's well lit. The neighborhood includes all of the fun aspects of living in Philadelphia - tons of access to food and bars, nearby grocery stores/markets, access to the parks and the Schuylkill River Trail
Very close to fun restaurants/bars/shops. Close to the subway as well as the train station (suburban station).
Rittenhouse is the safest part of Philly. It's a very "happening" part of town—lots of restaurants and bars on every street. At the same time, it's right next to more residential neighborhoods to walk around in and explore. It's a great place to live relatively close to the law school but with a degree of separation so as not to get trapped in the law school bubble.
The neighborhood is both quiet and lively. There is so much around, but I have never had an issue sleeping or studying because there is too much noise. The broad street line is a 10-15 minute walk away and we are close to shopping, food, the park, and the river trail. Has everything within a 10-15 walk.
This neighborhood has everything I need within walking distance. Shops, grocery stores, parks, the subway and trolley, post office. You name it. It's very safe and extremely quiet, which helps when I'm trying to study. The Rittenhouse Square area is really the best place to live in Philly if you don't mind paying a little more.
I love this neighborhood and knew I wanted to live here when beginning my apartment search. The park is one of my favorite places in the city, and I love being able to easily access all the restaurants and shopping nearby. It's also an easy (~20 minute) walk to Penn Law, and the walking commute has always been a nice and peaceful part of my day.

Spruce Street in particular is great - it's a little south of the square, so is quieter/shielded from a lot of the traffic that the neighborhood gets, but it's not out of the way or far away. There's a Starbucks, a grocery store (Rittenhouse Market), and a few corner stores (Four Seasons and Food & Friends) within a 2-3 minute walk of my apartment.
Love the neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square is beautiful and we are so close to the more commercial areas like Walnut Street while not being in the center of the craziness. Plus we are within walking distance of public transportation including 10 minutes from the 15/16 street PATCO station. I personally think it is one of the best areas of Philly to live in.
Rittenhouse Square has a park in the center surrounded by a bookstores, restaurants, and a public library. It is open to pets and often has open art / food markets on the weekends. It is close to the Broad Street Line and PATCO. There are many families who live in the area. It is affordable compared to other major cities (NYC, DC, Boston), but there are certainly more affordable areas in Philadelphia, simply without the luxury of being so close to Center City.
