1717 Evanston reviews and highlights
- Close to downtown Evanston
- 15 minute walk to Kellogg's campus
- Pool, outside grills, and fire pits which are nice during the summer
- Location is convenient
- Close to the train station and the campus shuttle
- Common spaces are well maintained
- Amenities are great
- All stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and wood floors
- Many Kellogg students live here
- Apartments are bright with lots of windows
- Having a gym in the building is fantastic, especially in the winter
- New building with new facilities
- Heated parking garage, but you have to pay extra
- Building staff is very nice
Overpriced, a little too far and annoying staff
It is a really nice place but probably not worth the higher price point. As well, the staff are pretty useless and take 2-3 weeks to do a simple task. This would be okay if the price was lower
. It's also further away. If you do live here definitely get a bike

1717 Review
We had a good experience here. However, frustrating elements include: (1) Dishwasher isn't great - have had problems with it, and when I've asked maintenance about it the typical response is that it's a systemic issue with all the dishwashers; (2) Hot water runs out after ~15 minutes (literally gets ice cold after that). Talked to friends in other units and they have this same issue. Maintenance says that it's because it's a LEED certified building. (3) Trash chute backs up EVERY weekend and doesn't get fixed until days later.

Great building
1717 is a new building and the units and amenities are great. The staff is helpful and friendly. The covered parking is a plus although it's a bit expensive.

Unit itself is fantastic, however, there has been lots of construction and management is ho hum at best

great living experience
The apartment is in great condition. It is very spacious and has enough sunlight even in winter days. I am staying in a 3br/2ba and its sound insulation is good. The gym, pool, and various lounges are easily accessible. Property management is responsive to maintenance requests. The downside is the location. It takes 20 minutes walking or 10 minutes biking to the Jake, and around 10 minutes walking to downtown Evanston.

Great property, not so great mgmt
1717 is a great place to live, with just one downside: the management.
Why is it great:
- Apartments are a bit more spacious than e.g. E2
- Building is relatively quiet, during summer you can always be at the pool, there's always space in the gym and generally there is also a grill available (or you just have to wait a little)
- Maintenance guys are great: always there quickly and superfriendly & helpful
Why the management is not that great: Generally not that friendly and felt like as soon as I signed the lease that the main manager didn't care much about us anymore. If you come with questions you get quite an attitude and don't feel very welcome.

Easy to commute downtown and to school
Great apartment, one of the best 'new' complexes. Easy to commute downtown (right near Metra/El) and also to Northwestern (several buses stop just outside, and just a 15 min walk). Early 30s occupants, so more mature but a fair amount of students as well.

Closer than people make it seem
People make it seem like 1717 is really far away but honestly it's not - I use the exit on the Oak St. side of the building and it's only a 3-5 minute walk further than Optima Horizons. The apartment is really nice - the cabinets are dark cherry and so is the hardwood floor. Carpet in the bedroom which I think is nice because it makes it more cozy. Living room gets plenty of sunlight but bedrooms need more. You do hear sirens quite a bit. The appliances are not that great - fridge makes noises and the dishwasher doesn't always work. Maintenance folks don't leave notes when they enter your apartment which bugs me. Good space for entertaining - open kitchen, large living room.
