Condo Living

Bought a condo and the building has been great. Quieter, close to most other buildings in the area that Kellogg students live in, indoor pool, workout room, nice fifth floor landscaped outdoor space with grills, grass and lounge chairs. Doorman 7 days a week, secure package room. Large space and a big bedroom for the price (lower than a lot of bigger buildings). Close to L and Metra lines.

Church is nice!

We've really enjoyed church street station - feel the value is very good. For the price, we've got about 1300 square feet which is on the larger side of a 2b2b in Evanston. It's a condo, our owner is a former Kellogg student who's been a total pleasure to rent from. It's a quieter spot with mostly retirees, would estimate 5-10 Kellogg folks in the building. That being said, it's super close proximity to Centrum (2 minute walk) and E2 (4 minute walk).

Solid apartment for two

The condo feels both cozy and spacious, lots of natural light and typical amenities (small gym, indoor pool). Solid location if you're looking to be close to the more popular buildings, but don't want to actually live in one.

Can't beat it

819 Foster is an absolute gem. Not only is the building really nice, it is a true 10 minute walk to the hub and a 5-10 minute walk to downtown (depending where you are going). It's a smaller building (only about 14 units), all 2 bed 2 baths, and given that it is a nicer building with nicer units it tends to skew towards families and those with pets. If you're looking for a pseudo-dorm, this isn't it. The units are very nice, large with lots of closet space. You're unlikely to find better in Evanston, especially given the premium location of 819 Foster. Other downtown locations will stay say they are a 15-20 minute walk to the hub, however most of those are based on how long it was to the old building, which is ~7 minutes closer to downtown than the hub is.

Every unit comes with 2 parking spots, a covered garage and the spot right behind the garage. We used the garage for extra storage and parked in the other spot when necessary. Each unit also has a large balcony. There aren't a ton of extra amenities (gym, etc.), is the only thing. Being a smaller building, students won't be congregating regularly at Foster like they do at E2, but the building is heavy on kellogg students (i think 8 out of 14 currently rented to Kellogg) and those that live here are more tight-knit because of it (you're also only a 5 minute walk from E2, so you're not at all on an island).

Spacious, loft-style apartment!

We've had a great time living in unit #301 (note that each unit has a unique layout/design), which has very tall ceilings and a large, open living area. There are 2 full baths and a parking spot that come with this unit, which is owned by a Kellogg grad. Pets are ok in the building, though we don't have one. We're right next to the Metra and very close to the L, so it's convenient for getting downtown. Further from campus, but there's a free bus (the CTA #201) that picks up right in front of the building and drops on campus!

Loft style condo by Davis stop

This place is exceptionally spacious and has the modern touches & look of a modern loft (high pitched ceilings, concrete floor in the main area, in unit W/D, and lots of square footage for a 2 bedroom at this price in Evanston. The doorpeople are SO nice here and there is a nice small gym on site (and a tiny indoor pool too). For NU students, it's conveniently less than a block from the free 201 CTA bus that drops off at many of the main campus spots. Great for Kellogg students! And right beside both the Davis Metra and Davis el stops.

Great for families

This is a great apartment complex. I don't think there are many renters in the building, it is primarily owned condos. There is a doorman and a free gym and indoor pool. This is definitely not a party condo but would be great for a couple or a family. The location is great, 15 minute walk to classes and 5 minutes to Whole Foods etc. It is also right near the L train and the Metro for commuting downtown. Our apartment has a lot of light, a nice layout and a balcony.

Downtown Evanston Reviews

Lots of apartments and family homes in the area. I always see someone riding their bike or walking throughout the day. It's a block from the police station, and only 2-3 blocks to downtown. Close to intercampus shuttle, 201 bus stop (3 blocks), and Dempster purple line (1.5 blocks). Nice area to live, quiet at night.
Downtown Evanston is a great place to live if you're a NU student. It's super easy to get to campus via either walking or the bus, and has convenient groceries within walking distance. The food scene is not the best, but good enough.
Evanston is the epitome of a college town, everything you need and most of what you want is within a 10 minute walk.
I really enjoy living in downtown Evanston. Everything that I need is within walking distance, and it is a 10-15 minute walk to my classes.
Safe, walkable area, even late at night depending on the streets you take. Great for convenience in terms of getting to campus, no car needed, access to many public transit options. You lose out in terms of cheap food options and fun nightlife - there are only a couple of bars open after 9PM on the weekends and for cheap food you're stuck with Chipotle or at best Tomate. But the lake and beach are within walking distance and you live close to other NU students making it well worth it for me.
Evanston really is a nice town. There's loads of food, both chains and otherwise, and a number of shops and things if you don't mind moving around a little. Driving in the greater Evanston area is not a lot of fun, I will say. I get the sense that the city doesn't much like the University and its constituents, and that the students don't always respect the city. It's not a perfect relationship, but it works. I can easily walk or take transit to class on the Evanston campus, and when I have class in Chicago I take transit, which usually takes more than an hour in the morning and close to an hour coming home.
Downtown Evanston is super cute! There are tons of restaurants and a handful of bars so I find that it offers a good bit of variety for the neighborhood size. There are street festivals, a great farmers market, summer concerts in the square and other community events I've enjoyed. Would highly recommend Evanston anyone who wants access to the city but a self-sufficient "urban burb" type neighborhood.
Pros: Great location near key Kellogg hangouts like World of Beer, Nevins, Five and Dime, Prairie Moon, etc. Also convenient to Bennison's Bakery! Great for late nights- can get home in < 5 minutes without ubering. Also near both Metra and L- ideal if you plan to spend some of your time in downtown Chicago.

Cons: Long walk from the Global hub. Closest grocery store is Whole Foods, a bit of a hike to TJ's and Jewel.
