Amazing overall

Great location, the apartments are very beautiful and have enough space, the administration is great. If you have any issues with the equipment they solve it really fast.

1717 Evanston Review

Big issues: Easy to lost delivery items. Small mailroom.
Other issues: No 24 hours front desk or door man. Expensive electricity which is not covered in base rent. Small swimming pool with poor water quality. Poor temperature control system.
Pros: Very quiet with thick walls. Gym is not too crowd. Outside the walking zone but near 201 bus stop.
Cons: Far from campus. 25 min walk from Tech

Horrible Management

Management has changed numerous times, one of the least organized apartments I’ve ever seen. One month after we signed our lease renewal, they told us they needed to redo our balcony and that they recommended we move to a new unit. The management was disrespectful and borderline cruel with how they managed that entire situation, pretending they knew nothing about the patio renovation before we signed the lease, when clearly they had. Other mistakes include reassigning our parking to other people twice, ignoring complaints about vandalism on our car,

It's Okay

Our unit is spacious, but lacking in kitchen and storage space. Appliances in the unit feel outdated but work okay. The gym is pretty small with not that many machines. Convenient walking distance to downtown Evanston and also to E2 for Kellogg events. New management has been much more responsive than the previous group.

Rough move in but good experience overall

MOVE IN was rough. Our appliances did not work - we were given 3 dryers in less than 24 hours. On the plus side, once I got their attention and asked them to prioritize it, it was taken care of (although 3 dryers in 24 hours is not convenient for anyone involved). The apartment was also dirty - stains on the floors, kitchen had unknown cooking substances built up everywhere, discolored cabinets and corners. I was able to take care of some of it and living with the rest.

Beyond that, great apartment complex. Just switched ownership in December 2021. More family-oriented (LOTS of dogs), less engaging community. If you are looking for a quiet, solid spot, this could be it. If you’re looking for community and new features, look elsewhere.

Great for Kellogg Students

1717 is a nice building with lots of Kellogg students - management is responsive, it's close to the other main Kellogg apartments, not too far from the Hub, and is a quiet building. It doesn't have the nicest finishings but is a little cheaper than some of the other big apartment complexes and the units are a bit larger as well.

Beautiful space more quiet but close to E2 and Kellogg; good value

Live with 3 roomates. We are very happy with the space and have enjoyed our time at 1717. Definitely recommend living here. Close to E2 and Kellogg. Plently of parking spaces for cars and the gym is well lit and nicer than E2. No basketball court, however. The outdoor space and pool is nice too in the summer for grilling and chilling. Free coffee in the morning too. Management is pretty relaxed

Best Value

In my opinion, 1717 offers the best value of higher-end amenities. Units are large, the gym is great, and the pool is great.

Very decent

Of the renting options that allow dogs, 1717 is by far the best value (given rent for space and amenities) that I could find. It is really nice to have the courtyard for the doggo friends and is only ~20 minutes to the Hub!

Downtown Evanston Reviews

Lots of apartments and family homes in the area. I always see someone riding their bike or walking throughout the day. It's a block from the police station, and only 2-3 blocks to downtown. Close to intercampus shuttle, 201 bus stop (3 blocks), and Dempster purple line (1.5 blocks). Nice area to live, quiet at night.
Downtown Evanston is a great place to live if you're a NU student. It's super easy to get to campus via either walking or the bus, and has convenient groceries within walking distance. The food scene is not the best, but good enough.
Evanston is the epitome of a college town, everything you need and most of what you want is within a 10 minute walk.
I really enjoy living in downtown Evanston. Everything that I need is within walking distance, and it is a 10-15 minute walk to my classes.
Safe, walkable area, even late at night depending on the streets you take. Great for convenience in terms of getting to campus, no car needed, access to many public transit options. You lose out in terms of cheap food options and fun nightlife - there are only a couple of bars open after 9PM on the weekends and for cheap food you're stuck with Chipotle or at best Tomate. But the lake and beach are within walking distance and you live close to other NU students making it well worth it for me.
Evanston really is a nice town. There's loads of food, both chains and otherwise, and a number of shops and things if you don't mind moving around a little. Driving in the greater Evanston area is not a lot of fun, I will say. I get the sense that the city doesn't much like the University and its constituents, and that the students don't always respect the city. It's not a perfect relationship, but it works. I can easily walk or take transit to class on the Evanston campus, and when I have class in Chicago I take transit, which usually takes more than an hour in the morning and close to an hour coming home.
Downtown Evanston is super cute! There are tons of restaurants and a handful of bars so I find that it offers a good bit of variety for the neighborhood size. There are street festivals, a great farmers market, summer concerts in the square and other community events I've enjoyed. Would highly recommend Evanston anyone who wants access to the city but a self-sufficient "urban burb" type neighborhood.
Pros: Great location near key Kellogg hangouts like World of Beer, Nevins, Five and Dime, Prairie Moon, etc. Also convenient to Bennison's Bakery! Great for late nights- can get home in < 5 minutes without ubering. Also near both Metra and L- ideal if you plan to spend some of your time in downtown Chicago.

Cons: Long walk from the Global hub. Closest grocery store is Whole Foods, a bit of a hike to TJ's and Jewel.
