Move Downtown
Don’t live in Hyde Park. It’s unsafe. Move downtown

Decent
It's a decent place to stay in Hyde Park--meets comfortable, basic living standards. 24/7 doorman and underground parking garage are pluses. Biggest negative is the internet. American Wide Broadband is the only provider and the internet is slow and unreliable. Depending on which side of the complex you live in, you may be able to get 5G internet which is much better.

Shoreland for Three Years
I've lived in Shoreland for three years, and I think it's pretty good value for a student. While there are certainly more affordable options in Hyde Park, the amenities, proximity to transit (the 171 bus stops right out front), 24-hour front desk staffing, and proximity to the lake make it a really great place to live. I always feel safe here, and while there are the usual difficulties of living in an apartment building, I would really recommend it for UChicago Law students (especially compared to other options!).

Generally good, occasionally great
I had some hesitations about renting from Mac after some horror stories were passed along but I am generally pleased with my experience here. The front desk staff are so nice and really try to make the apartment complex feel more welcoming. I appreciate the gym in the building as well! All the maintenance issues I’ve had have been promptly responded to and fixed. Depending on where your unit is, it can be pretty loud with trash and recycling pickup which seems to occur every other day at least, so be cognizant of that (seems worst on the northwest side of the building).

Shoreland - great option
The apartment is right off Lake Michigan with super easy access to The Point and the waterfront trail. There is also a bus stop right out front of the building that can take you to the law school. Getting a parking spot with the building is difficult, but there is tons of free street parking right outside, and a parking lot close by that you can pay for monthly. The overall apartment is very clean and nice. Maintenance has always been quick to respond. I also feel very safe as the front desk is staffed 24 hours a day (which also means your packages never get stolen, and there is an Amazon Hub locker that is very convenient). Overall, it is a great place to live as a 1L.

Overall good choice
I lived here for all three years of law school. The property management can be a little unreliable at times, but the building feels safe and has its own bus stop that goes directly to the law school.

Very comfortable with good amenities
My priority was living in a modern apartment with in-unit washer and dryer. It's been very comfortable. I feel safe and the building staff is friendly and responsive. It's convenient having a small gym in the building and as a runner, I love living right on the lakeshore. It's a nice unit and while expensive, it's at a more affordable price point that some of the high-end luxury apartments in Hyde Park (5252, Solstice, etc.) while being much more modern than most of the walk-ups.

Great, friendly, collegiate
Shoreland is a great choice for law students! It is convient to the law school, grocery store, and a number of restaurants. Shoreland also is right on Lake Michigan which is truly incredible. The building has a number of law students living in it, offering an almost “dorm-feel” - I really commend for any 1Ls and 2Ls that want a little bit of distance from the law school, while being conveniently located on a bus route

Great, friendly, collegiate
The Shoreland is a great building for 1Ls and 2Ls. The building offers a collegiate environment as a great deal of law students live there. It is a great distance from the law school (not far, but easy to access via bus line).
