I enjoy living in Shoreland. There are many other law students that live here, making it especially convenient in the winter months. I love the proximity to the lakefront, that there is a bus stop to the law school in front of the building, and that there is in-unit laundry.

Perfect Place to Live
Couldn't be better. Great rooms, great location, great amenities, and nice to be near classmates.

Satisfied for the most part (maybe a little overpriced)
I have had only good interactions with Mac Properties despite hearing the horror stories. Maintenance requests are often filled within a few hours of submission and the staff is wonderful and friendly. Being so close to a 171 bus stop is also great because it basically provides door to door service from Shoreland to the law school.

Super Comfortable from Day 1
This property goes far beyond my expectation in several ways. First, you can enjoy fully renovated and beautiful room, as if you were the first resident for your room. The kitchen, bathroom, electrical appliances in my room were all brand-new and clean. That makes me really comfortable from Day 1. Second, as almost all the utilities are included in the monthly fee (in accurate, utility fee plus monthly rent), all you have to do is to contact with internet service provider. Especially for international students, skipping burdensome contact with several utility companies is a great benefit and that allows you to start your new life smoothly. Third, though my room is studio type, it's really spacious and has lots of storage space. As I have two closets, I can hang all clothes (no need for storage case). Additionally, it's generally quiet throughout the day, so I think it's one of the best places to study for UChicago students.
The only downside is, while the building is classical and beautiful, it was built in 1925. Actually, I had encountered trouble on the water outlet in the kitchen, but it was not serious.
Overall, I really feel comfortable living in Shoreland and so I highly recommend to new students!

Clean, new apartment; great folks working in building
I really like living at Shoreland though I will admit the rent feels a bit high for a studio. I appreciate being able to live alone with my cat. The people who work at the front desk and in maintenance are the nicest. The gym is small but good/convenient enough for me. The 171 bus which drops you directly at the law school stops right in front of the building. We are very close to a tunnel that leads to the Lake Shore which is great for running. It also leads directly to Promontory Point where a lot of student orgs host bonfires/events.

Building review
The building is good. It doesn’t provide you with a lot of facilities (just a gym and common areas) but overall is better than other Mac Properties in HP (especially if compared to Regents)

No complaints about Shoreland!
We've had a good experience living at Shoreland so far. The apartment is nice and clean, and we don't have to worry about utilities because they're included in our rent. Management is responsive to repair/maintenance concerns. For law students, it's very convenient to commute on the free 171, which stops in front of Shoreland and the law school. You could definitely get a cheaper place in Hyde Park and be fine, but you pay a little extra for the convenience and some amenities (like central AC and in-unit washer/dryer).

Quality apartments, far from campus
I've had a good experience with Mac and at the Shoreland. The apartment is relatively spacious and has lots of windows with a pleasant view. It was important to me to have a dishwasher and in-unit washer-dryer and the Shoreland was one of the only places within my price range where I was able to get that. I don't have a parking spot, but I have not had an issue with free street parking as it's a quiet street. I also had a much smoother leasing process after a negative experience trying to rent from Ivy Residences. As a law student, it has been convenient to have many of my classmates in the building. The only major downside is that the Shoreland is far from campus, particularly from the Law School. I walked my commute for much of the first quarter and it is just over a 30 minute walk. There is a bus stop right in front of the building, but the bus can be inconsistent and infrequent, especially when trying to get back from campus to the building in the late afternoon and evening. The building is about a 15 minute walk from two grocery stores, but the Shoreland is also rather distant from most of Hyde Park's coffee shops and restaurants.

Shoreland is a good choice for law students
Overall good building. A bus stops right in front of Shoreland and the Law School. The bus doesn't come by frequently enough though. Otherwise the location is a bit inconvenient - about 10 mins walk from groceries and 15 mins walk from metra. 6 mins walk to 6 Bus station that can take you downtown.
