Presidential Towers

Great for M1-M2 year! The best part is that you can take the Rush Employee Shuttle to/from school each morning and evening (only a 30 second walk away from 555 W Madison St). It picks up at Oglivie station and drops you off in front of the AAC building at Rush. You have to pay for the gym at presidential towers (it was $80/month) and even though that seems expensive it's the best gym me or any of my classmates in presidential towers have ever been members of (has huge amount of machines, a pool/jacuzzi/steamroom/etc) and you can easily afford it with our loans. I recommend getting a 1bedroom instead of a studio apartment so you can close the bedroom door and won't wake up your partner. Also easier to have parties and host people. It's a small apartment size but perfect for studying. Building 1, 2, or 3 is better than tower 4. Tower 4 is great only if you have a dog. Mariano's and Whole Foods are 2 blocks away. The pink line subway to Rush is only a 5min walk away. If you ever have a problem like a drain is clogged they have maintenance people available 24hrs a day and usually show up to your door within 30mins of you calling them.

PT!!

This apartment is an old building, but the best deal for the price at this location. Stunning high-rise views. Secure package room. The RUSH commuter shuttle picks you up from a block away, so you can avoid taking the L to school.

Sometimes the elevators don't work, there are some plumbing issues, and lots of construction. I would check latest google reviews to double check you're okay with these problems. Unfortunately the gym isn't included. There are also 4 towers with their unique pros and cons. My personal issue with this place is that they only have heat or A/C on at once - so once it gets a little cold in October, your apartment is basically a sauna until it's really cold outside. This is manageable if you have fans and space heaters.

You are paying for location and convenience

The title really says it all. This property is nice, but nothing special. None of the utilities are included, and the gym that is on the property is $107 per month (granted it is a nice gym, but still not worth >$100/mo). You are very close to Ogilvie, Union, and there is a VERY convenient shuttle that is operated by RUSH that picks up right in front of Ogilvie. This mean that you essentially have a free shuttle directly to Rush every weekday (it operates during morning and evening rush hours in both directions). You will be close to the loop and close to Fulton Market (restaurants). There is not a neighborhood vibe because you're essentially downtown, but there is a ton of public transit around that makes going places easy. The property is huge, so do not expect to hear back from any of the building managers quite literally for months. My studio has a very large walk-in closet which is awesome. I enjoy the hard floors. There are large windows which makes the small studios feel a little larger. Utilities are pretty expensive, budget about $80 per month, plus internet which varies.

The sprit airlines of apartments

Let me start by saying I absolutely love PT. I have a gorgeous 48th floor view of the city, almost ceiling to floor windows and a great community where I have made many friends outside of work. Other PT pros - same day maintenace repairs, allows pets (I have a dog), spacious kitchen (compared to my NYC apt), tons of closet space (4 large closets), 2 grocery stores across the street, walking distance to bars/restaurants/train to UIC and O’Hare airport/riverwalk, right on the interstate, can bike to work. Cons - this is the spirit airlines of apartments, meaning if you want parking, gym, utilities, pool… you pay for it. You don’t want it, then you don’t pay. Also people complain that the elevators are slow but honestly that doesn’t bother me. I love it here and would highly recommend living here.

Solid

Price point is not the best, pretty expensive. However, I have no complaints. No utilities are included with the rent price, so expect to pay for water, electricity, internet, gas, etc. However, the location is close to school (7 min train ride) and even better there is a RUSH OPERATED SHUTTLE that takes you straight from Presidential Towers to Rush's front door (10 minute rush-only bus ride) that operates in the morning and afternoon. In a great location and quite spacious with large windows.

Poor apartment complex layout

The main complaint I have about this apartment complex is that you only have 1 entrance for the entire 4 buildings in the complex, which is located all the way at the base of the easternmost tower. Even though there are loading docks at the base of every building, residents aren't granted access to them except in special circumstances (e.g. moving in) and only dog owners are given key fob access to the loading dock entrance so that they can walk their dogs outside easily. Horribly inconvenient design and there is no flexibility from the management on this.

I found my studio while living in another city, so I never had the chance to visit in-person before moving in, but I would have thought that this would be a pretty important detail to tell potential tenants about...

Related to the above point, the package room for all 4 buildings is also located in a hallway accessed in an obscure corner of the first (easternmost) building. I (and many other tenants) have to use a dolly/cart in order to bring some of the heavier packages back to the apartment (e.g. cat litter).

Lastly, they have been on this renovation streak for the past half year-- they closed the driveway/entrance for a couple months to redo the entire thing and have moved on to renovating the entire passageway connecting all 4 buildings. Not really sure why they're spending all of this money making minimally noticeable aesthetic changes when they should be focusing on fixing the floorplan of the complex by making a street entrance available for every building.

The studio itself is fine. I have great natural light because of two big sets of windows and being up high. No noise complaints. All appliances work, central heating kicked in around the right time, and there are laundry machines at the base of every building. I think they cheaped out a bit when choosing the toilets, because mine does not flush very strongly sometimes and often continues to drain water after flushing. There are some restaurants nearby and there are several bus stops and a subway station nearby. There's also a grocery store + little town center across the freeway (5-10 minute walk) with some stores.

If you choose to live here, I would recommend to live in the easternmost building if you don't want to walk extra every day.

Nice Apt

Location is amazing, right in the heart of the city - across the street from Ogilvie Station. There's a nice big driveway outside the main doors which is really convenient for getting picked by Uber/Lyft or taxis.
If you are visiting someone here, you will love it. It feels luxurious, though it isn't quite. The patio area is very nice for small gatherings. The grills are free.

Decent

It’s my first year living here and it’s been great so far. The lobby is from another planet. It’s essentially modeled to look like a hotel lobby and it is absolutely gorgeous. The one drawback is the cost of rent. I one bed and one bath costs me almost two grand. And that’s without utilities or gym access.

Love this place!

I have nothing but positive things to say about presidential Towers. I have lived here since 2011, and I continually renew my lease. I am now engaged, and my Fiancé moved in with me. She fell in love with it just as much as I did. We are planning on having kids, and plan on raising them here in presidential Towers! Absolutely love this place :-)
