Close to campus

Very convenient location, about 15min walk to Case School of Medicine Buildings. Big living room and decent size bedroom. My kitchen is not renovated, no dishwasher, but plenty of cabinet space. Heat is included in rent. Rent cannot be paid online, must be in-person at the leasing office or by phone. They advertise a gym, but it is very small. There are some maintenance issues with air conditioning and plumbing, repairs won't be done until summer 2025.
Overall comfortable living for the price and location.

Aging building-Constant A/C problem

I like the views I get from a 5th floor overlooking the sunset on a south facing window. But the price is tolerating old building quirks.

Due to building age, there is low availability of central A/C, elevator function and heating. I’ve been in this complex for two years. First year they struggled fixing the A/C for Summer. Heatwave in May was brutal and it wasn’t until mid June that we got A/C. That year heating was fine. 2022. In May 2023 they got ahead of the curve and A/C was working. However, we did not have elevators for like a month or two in 2023. Renters threatened to sue and they got one elevator working right now. Unfortunately, time passed and due to multiple renter’s ceilings caving in due to poor plumbing issue as a result of old central A/C, they shut down A/C as of mid July. Heatwave this year ended mid September. They offered some window A/C units and small ceiling fans in bedrooms. Window A/C units were limited. Gave credit to make up for people buying their own A/Cs.

Management is accommodating to renter needs but it feels like they are constantly putting out fires of dealing with an old building. They have a gym but it smells and it doesn’t offer much besides a treadmill and some dumbbells.

They have a laundry room that in 2022 was problematic due to having broken machines that they routinely fix. In Sept 2023 they got new machines. Overall I would recommend this building after they fix the old A/C system, and get at least one new elevator in place of the broken one (broke around April 23’). As of today, October 23’, I have bought heating systems and fans to deal with building issues. In Sept this year, my apartment flooded due to plumbing issues with a toilet two floors above me. They reinforced my ceiling to make sure it doesn’t cave in but left a total mess for me to clean up. Ceiling reinforcement was done a week after flooding had occured. I called emergency line and they sent someone after 3-4 hrs. If i order packages, I make sure I can pick them up as quick as possible because I lost a package I could not receive because I was on a trip.

The saving grace of this apartment complex is that its 20 mins away from Wolfstein building. Perfect for people working there. Its up to you whether you can tolerate risk of having old building problems in exchange for peaceful sunset views and proximity to CWRU campus.

Walking distance from CWRU

The best part about my apartment complex is the views you get when you choose an apartment 5th floor and above facing South or North. I would recommend facing South because the sun enters during the winter time and during the summertime you get a cool apartment because the sun sets on the north side so it doesn't heat it up. I love that I can scooter to class in less than 5 minutes or choose to walk for 15 minutes.

The caveats about the apartment complex are: rental price point is too high when considering amenities value; you don't have specific temperature control per apartment unit; laundry machines that get broken take long to get fixed and they don't accept dogs as pets unless you have an emotional support letter. They are a cats only pets apartment.

Temperature is not apartment controlled. Management controls the thermostat for the whole building. I moved in the summer and had to wait a month and a half for Management to get the broken A/C part and turn it on for summer heat. Thermostat per apartment only controls the intensity at which you get heat during winter and cold during summer. In my experience, the intensity control is not sensitive. This means I had to get a fan during the summer to manage the heat when A/C was broken but was ok when it was fixed. During the Fall my experience has been that the heat is now on and the best control I have for temperature is to shut down the unit and open my windows because heat is too intense. Even when I open windows, I need to use my fan to sleep at a 75*C temperature when there's not enough wind to cool down apartment that most likely has heat from nearby units that have heat turned on.

The gym at CWRU, One to One Fitness, is 10x better than the small gym at the apartment complex. You have to pay for parking garage and commit to it for the duration of your lease. Laundry unit is communal, which means you need to wake up early on weekends or during weeknights to avoid waiting on machines. Laundry machines take a while to get repaired. And they only have standing showers, not bathubs.

Overall I would recommend it for roommates or families because you can enjoy the space they have and the storage they provide, which is generous. You get a Closet for coats, closet for linens next to bathroom and your room closet. On top of that, you can pay to get a storage unit in the basement floor. The best value for price is for roommates or families because the price per individual paying rent drops to a reasonable pricepoint compared to living on your own paying $1200 for the space and less than that if you take a non-renovated unit with old appliances that could break down and could be prone to pests being present. For the space, storage, proximity to campus, views from 5th floors and above and proximity to Little Italy I would consider this apartment good for its value for 2B/2B and 3B/2B.

Gets the job done but lots of downsides

The building is very old and the heating/cooling system is extremely loud. There was also a cockroach problem in august. There are always issues with the water (there's water maintenance every month so water is turned off about once a month) and even though it's non-smoking, it always smells like cigarette smoke. Definitely not renewing my lease. The only perk is that it is extremely close to Case and the hospitals but the price is jacked up because they know they are catering to mostly students.

Good apartment for a pandemic--even better for a student.

I moved in during the pandemic, so I have not made any leaps or bounds with respect to social life. Despite this, I feel very safe and have been able to study and enjoy living in Cleveland thus far. The walls are rather thin, but the only thing I can consistently hear through them is the plumbing or construction, which can be heard year round pretty much every day--this just tells me that things are working because I personally never have issues with my apartment in this capacity.

Waldorf Towers

The place is ok. My unit is a bit old, but they're renovating new units and those look pretty good. Central AC in the summer is amazing. We don't pay for heat in the winter and live on the 7th floor so it is always extra warm in the winter. Front desk will sign packages for you. Management is getting better about responding to maintenance requests quickly. It is very close to campus (10-15min walk)
