Great place, long distance

Very good amenities, not that you’ll use them all (like the indoor movie theater). But gym is great and community there is pretty cool. Great place if you have pets, convince Amazon lockers/fridge storage room and front desk service. But it’s a 40-55 minute commute to campus with the metro/AU shuttle and a 35 minute commute with the metro and a personal scooter.

Far Away But Worth It

Love my apartment. The commute can be a bit of a hassle sometimes, particularly when I'm staying at school later than the metro runs. However, because the commute is significant enough, I wind up going to school in the morning and staying until I finish my work. I really like that setup because it forces me to keep work and home separate, which means that at home I can actually relax.

Review of avalon first and M

I have only good things to say about this building. It is always extremely clean, staff is great, gym is amazing! When something is broken, someone comes up the next day and efficiently fixes it. Lots of natural sunlight, great location right near the metro.

Fun place

Avalon is fun, with many amenities including a beautiful rooftop pool and jacuzzi. The management and staff are extremely helpful. My biggest complaint is the number of elevators. Sometimes it can take a long time to leave and get to my apt room, I have seen others become frustrated waiting for the elevator.

Great Apartment Building in NoMa

Very modern, clean, and safe. Amenities are the best I've seen. We have had quite a few maintenance requests; however, they respond and fix the problems within 24 hours. The apartment is pet friend and within 1 block of the metro. I highly recommend it.

Convenient and well-kept

Pros: Beautiful building that's close to metro. Grocery store and Starbucks are within a one-minute walk. Amenities such as pool, kitchen, gym and cinema are well-kept and free to reserve!

Cons: No real restaurants or bars in the area, though when the weather is nice it's pretty easy to get to Chinatown or Shaw.

Great building, not so great location.

Everything about this building has been great. The amenities are fantastic, apartments are updated and everything is clean and accessible. The only downside to this building is the location. NoMa is still very up and coming and there aren't many places to walk to other than Harris Teeter and CVS.

Best Bang for your Buck

I've loved living at the Avalon! It's a lot of graduate students and young professionals living in the building, so there's study areas that I use on the weekents. Everything I need is within a block: Starbucks, Harris Teeter, CVS, Roti, Potbelly, etc. It's so convenient to take the red line anywhere in the city. Definitely recommended if you have a pet, there's even a dog salon on the first floor.

Avalon is Amazing!

I love my apartment building! It's reasonably priced, beautiful and modern, plus the staff is super-friendly. I moved in around April of 2015 from a building near Chinatown-Gallery Place that was owned by the same company, and I certainly don't plan on leaving anytime soon.

NoMa Reviews

I don't venture too far outside of the few blocks of NoMa because outside of the neighborhood isn't as safe. However, the city has done a lot to revamp the area in the past few years, so there are new restaurants and bars opening up. I also live right across the street from the metro, which makes the rest of the city much more accessible.
NoMa is approximately a 35 minute commute to GWU. However, my roommate works on the hill which is less than 10 minutes away. There is a Harris Teeter connected to the building so you don't even have to go outside in order to shop for groceries. The area is still up and coming, so some of the surrounding streets don't seem very safe. However, it is getting better each and every day and it is easy to avoid those streets.
It's an up and coming neighborhood though I live in the very nice part of it. It's rough across North Capitol, but there's nothing over there to go to so I never run into any issues. There's a big dog park as well as plenty to do and eat at Union Market.
Neighborhood is okay. Everything is walkable. Bars/restaurants/grocery stores are super close by. Parking is usually available. Super safe (just don't go near the NY Ave Wendys after dark)
NoMa is up and coming - there are not too many places to eat/socialize in the evenings but the neighborhood is close enough to H Street that you don't feel too stranded.
It's growing like crazy but seriously lacks on the dining/nightlife portion. I like the geography and with the REI opening I'm hoping the nightlife will shift as well.
Fairly safe, though I wouldn't roam around a lot at night. It's certainly a transitioning neighborhood. Lots of people with dogs, big and small.
Noma is a cool area with young professionals mainly and has a lot of food/bar options! It's about 30 min from campus via metro, 20 min driving, (don't walk to campus). The apartment itself is super safe, as is the immediately surrounding area. But it isn't safe to walk west of the area or too far north either.
