Good amenities

I love that it is close to a metro stop but it still would be nice to live closer to campus. However, places closer to campus do not offer the same value. I get a lot of nice amenities: gym, pool, work/study lounge, rooftop lounge. It is easy to submit maintenance requests and they typically respond really quickly. It is walking distance to Harris Teeter, Trader Joes, Union Market, and a few coffee shops and eateries.
The downside: not the cleanest surrounding area, there is construction across the street, people ignore the no smoking policy, and some pest (bugs and rodent) issues in the building.

Not bad, very expensive

I like my apartment and complex, but 2 of our doors are not real doors/have no locks so there is less privacy; it is expensive; the management is occasionally helpful; I like the location but it is far from other things

more cost efficient but further from campus

I really love living at Ava. It has all the amenities I want for less than the apts I was looking at that we're closer to campus. My main qualm is it still is pretty expensive and not sure if my rental deal I originally got will last all 3 years. Also I've had a minor maintenance request submitted and not completed since I moved in. But again, good amenities, the market connected to the apt is great, and it's only 5 min from the metro (red line).

Great Amenities, Bad Management

The amenities at the apartment are what drew me to this place. The only downside is the very strict rules for using the roof/pool. We are only allowed 2 guests at a time. On top of this there is security in the lobby, but they are not very effective as I have seen theft and assault happen in front of me with the security guard just standing there.

Great Area

I like having my own house and space without worrying about close quarters with neighbors in an apt building. The fenced in yard is key for letting my dog out. The included driveway/parking for no additional fee is ideal for me to be able to commute to campus without having to worry about finding a spot when i return home.

Ava Noma

It’s very nice but the property managers are useless at times. There are also a lot of issues with appliances or locks or doors breaking and it taking a long time for the building to get around to fixing it. They also promised us parking and a year around pool when we moved in but since we’ve lived here that’s been changed with no input from those living here. However, the rooftop is very nice with a pool, large tv, and grills. The gym is also very nice for an apartment. A streets market is attached to the building so a quick grocery store run or meal is nice. It’s also very pet friendly with its own dog park.

I don't venture too far outside of the few blocks of NoMa because outside of the neighborhood isn't as safe. However, the city has done a lot to revamp the area in the past few years, so there are new restaurants and bars opening up. I also live right across the street from the metro, which makes the rest of the city much more accessible.
NoMa is approximately a 35 minute commute to GWU. However, my roommate works on the hill which is less than 10 minutes away. There is a Harris Teeter connected to the building so you don't even have to go outside in order to shop for groceries. The area is still up and coming, so some of the surrounding streets don't seem very safe. However, it is getting better each and every day and it is easy to avoid those streets.
It's an up and coming neighborhood though I live in the very nice part of it. It's rough across North Capitol, but there's nothing over there to go to so I never run into any issues. There's a big dog park as well as plenty to do and eat at Union Market.
Neighborhood is okay. Everything is walkable. Bars/restaurants/grocery stores are super close by. Parking is usually available. Super safe (just don't go near the NY Ave Wendys after dark)
NoMa is up and coming - there are not too many places to eat/socialize in the evenings but the neighborhood is close enough to H Street that you don't feel too stranded.
It's growing like crazy but seriously lacks on the dining/nightlife portion. I like the geography and with the REI opening I'm hoping the nightlife will shift as well.
Fairly safe, though I wouldn't roam around a lot at night. It's certainly a transitioning neighborhood. Lots of people with dogs, big and small.
Noma is a cool area with young professionals mainly and has a lot of food/bar options! It's about 30 min from campus via metro, 20 min driving, (don't walk to campus). The apartment itself is super safe, as is the immediately surrounding area. But it isn't safe to walk west of the area or too far north either.
