The perfect family housing
These apartments offer a safe, social, community experience with close proximity to stores such as CVS, Trader Joe's, Ralph's etc. Easy to commute to UCLA via bus (Culver City green bus number 6 and Rapid 6 serve the route and takes about 30 minutes) or bike (takes around 25 minutes). The rent includes water, gas, trash and a parking spot(most spaces are closed-garage). This place is ideal for kids - you will find lot of play grounds and day-care/preschool serving the community. The only downside is that its close to the 405 freeway and so its a little noisy that takes time to get used to.

UCLA UV
The apartments are good quality, with attentive staff. Parking was convenient; the neighborhood was gated. There were few issues with the laundry room, which I understand to be an issue in other places. The apartment was fully equipped (ie microwave and fridge). Despite all of the children, noise was not an issue. My biggest complaint is that it was small. I think as a first apartment it is great, but we had moved here from a larger apartment. The commute was reasonable - 12 minutes on the best day, 30-40 with the worst traffic or construction. Also, the only pets permitted are service animals. Unfortunately, the pool was frequently out of commission as children that had not been potty trained would use it. It was nice living next to other students and couples, but as people without children, we did not take advantage of the social opportunities.

Good price, decent apartment
Apartment management isn't always the best or most responsive (had termite issue last year that took weeks to fix), but the rent is subsidized by UCLA so you won't find a cheaper deal on a comparable apartment in the area. Things are overall fine here, not super nice but also not dumpy.

Great deal, family-friendly
This is a great place for families. Safe environment with close access to elementary school and daycare (I am on the Sepulveda side).
Buildings and units frequently have issues because the units are old. However, maintenance is relatively quick for emergency maintenance. Just watch out for package deliveries because there are some theft issues going on especially during the holidays.
There are busus going to UCLA close by. Internet, cable, one car parking included and it is a great deal overall.

My top option for housing during the MBA
What i like the most about living here is the space we have in our apartment (enough to invite some friends and still feel comfortable). When i least like about the University ViIllage is safety regarding the mail boxes (i had my mail boxes stolen several times) and bicycle parking (i frequently hear that people had their bikes stolen).
There is a great park 5 minutes walking from here with a lot of structure for sports, including indoor basketball, 6 tennis courts, etc. It is also very beautiful. Also in a 5 minutes walking distance, there are 5 supermarkets and retail chains (e.g. Ralphs, Trader joes, Rite Aid, Ross, Vons, Starbucks, Whole Foods, and more).
Regarding the management, every time we had maintenance issues (around 4 times in 1 year), the maintenance person would come and solve the issue (e.g. clogged toilet or sink, air conditioning problems, etc.) at no additional cost.
Additionally, we have access to a many laundry rooms with over 20 washing and drying machines each, where we can wash and dry our clothes.

Great value and convenient
Living in this complex has been great in general. Although there are definitely lots of children around, noise hasn't been much of a problem, and the amenities are fantastic given the low price point. It's also really conveniently located, just south of Sawtelle Japantown. The only complaint is that sometimes packages are lost or delivered to the wrong location. Pets are not allowed though.
