Simple and Quiet

University Village is off-campus UCLA housing reserved for grad student married couples and students with children. As such, it's a very family-friendly place. The apartments come unfurnished, but the people in the community are constantly selling furniture for cheap.

You'll be told if you are accepted to live there by the summer before the semester begins, so my husband and I didn't need to do any kind of apartment search (perfect since we're not from LA).

It's near a great public elementary school, is a quiet area, and is on bus routes that go straight to UCLA. Highly recommend living here!

Poor facilities and security but great community

It is indeed cheaper than other private apartments in West LA, but there is many reasons for it. No elevator, continuous noise of freeway, security in and around the complex, distance from UCLA, old and broken facilities, and so on.
On the other hand, the community it wonderful. There are only UCLA people living in the complex and thus most of the residents are nice and kind. Court is a great place to communicate with others. We usually have parties or gatherings with our neighbors.
It is also good to have many supermarkets in walkable distance, but you will find it dangerous to walk to the supermarket after it gets dark.

Best Place to Live for Couples

I was really really fortunate to get off the waitlist and into an apartment at UV. UV offers housing to graduate students who are engaged/married and/or have children. You can't beat the value with the money you save on rent and the apartments themselves are solid (everything works and the maintenance staff is pretty responsive). If I could be a graduate student at UCLA and live at UV forever I would!

University Village

Great value for a 2 bedroom! Kitchens are updated. Good community feel. Takes about 30-40 minutes to UCLA on the culver city bus.

Family Housing

Great apartment and neighborhood for lowest rent. Quieter - family environment. Further from campus but near multiple public transit options. Good not great apartment quality. Responsive management. University housing application process is opaque and requires flexibility with timing of move-in.
