University Village

This complex is exactly what my wife and I need while I traipse through law school. It is not luxury by any means - the pool overflows with children and the building is rather old - but it does provide a (albeit tiny) garage and some amenities including a 24-hour study room, community center, and several BBQs. The gated complex is safe, close to groceries and other essentials, and only about 5 miles south of campus (I ride my bike, but there's a bus stop right outside the main entrance). Probably our biggest complaint is the silly layout of our unit, which has a triangular shaped bedroom and a bathroom connected to it, so guests have to walk through our bedroom to use the facilities.

Excellent value

You won’t find a better deal on the Westside. The grounds are nicely maintained/landscaped. The units are not fancy but have all the basics.

Best deal in West LA

Hard to imagine better value for the space anywhere in West LA. Also nice to be in a community of other graduate students.

Great except the parking

The apartment is really nice. For $1775 I can’t believe we can have a two bedroom two bath apartment. Having two rooms and two bathrooms is amazing and definitely worth the extra money (although we didn’t choose that initially, I’m glad they chose that for us). There isn’t an elevator which I thought was weird, but that hasn’t been that big of a deal. My only complaint is the parking. It feels unreasonable to me that only one of us gets a parking spot even though there’s two people living in this apartment, and we got the blue parking permit but the spots are nowhere near our apartment so it’s not even usable. I know this isn’t feasible at this point but it would’ve been a better idea to build a parking lot instead of garages in order to make more space for cars. My husband parks on the street and has gotten five parking tickets because the rules on the street are so random (which I know isn’t the schools problem). Anyway, overall I recommend.

Excellent Value, Simple Process

This is a UCLA managed complex for grad students who are married or have kids. I got on the wait list for it in April before starting 1L and was matched in an apartment shortly after with a July move in date. This eliminated all my housing stress, as I didn’t have to do any housing search. The rent is well below market rate in a nice neighborhood.
Very friendly complex, lots of couples with young kids.
It’s about a 30 minute bus ride to campus on either the Culver City or Santa Monica buses, both of which run frequently.

Perfect place to live with a Sig-O and/or family

We'd be paying double for the amount of space and quality of the apartment anywhere else in this area. Highly recommend applying for UV housing and crossing your fingers that you get a good lottery number.
