Great location, beautiful apartment, management leaves something to be desired

The location of West Village is incredible. You are a block from downtown Durham and all the bars/restaurants/breweries/shops, and a few blocks from East Campus. Apartments are loft style with 23 foot ceilings and exposed brick.

Beautiful apartments, terrible management

The apartments are lovely: converted warehouses with exposed brick, lofted ceilings, giant windows. Fairly well kept-up. Good amenities.

The management team onsite all work in sales roles and they make zero effort to be available/helpful to current residents.

Great location, old warehouse problems

I can't think of a better location, close to most bars/restaurants plus Duke Downtown shuttle has 2 stops within the West Village complex. Being in one of the converted warehouses, I expected it to feel a little newer than it does...it's a little worn and doesn't have that new/clean feeling. However, the apartment is gorgeous with interesting details: exposed brick, high ceilings, big beautiful windows with ledges. Not sure if it is worth the higher rent, but I love being downtown while I'm a 1st year and have some time to go out and enjoy Durham.

Good, Not Great

West Village is in an excellent location, right in downtown within walking distance of many restaurants. The apartment itself is decent, and the brick walls give it character. But the fact that it's in an old tobacco warehouse comes with many downsides. The lack of full bedroom walls means there's little privacy. The paper thin walls that separate units make it such that I can hear my neighbors' conversations (it's especially bad when they host parties or play loud). The insulation isn't great, so as temperatures get colder outside the apartment gets more difficult to warm up.

Because I didn't sign my lease until July (a month before I planned to move in), West Village was a satisfactory last minute choice. The alternatives were cheap, dilapidated apartments closer to Duke or vastly more expensive options. However, I plan to move to another apartment next year because the noise and privacy factors outweigh the great location.

Best Location in Durham

Don't let anyone tell you different, I have lived here for 2 years. West Village is the best location to live in Durham. The old Tobacco Warehouses also provide tones of space and exposed brick. Management team can be a pain and they force you to pay for internet, cable, and valet trash services. This is annoying, but again best location and super nice places. It is cheaper than some of the bran new places around town next to some not so nice areas.

Beautiful Warehouse Apartments

Amazing location. Apartment has great character (old warehouse, big windows, exposed brick, lofted ceilings etc). Management company is entirely incompetent.

Great location, beautiful unit, not great management

West Village has an unparalleled location and the units are beautiful! If you’re moving from a bigger city (we moved from boston), rents are great too. The management isn’t that friendly or helpful but if you can avoid needing their help, it’s a great place to live.

Very safe neighborhood, I have never felt unsafe here and have been comfortably walking alone even at night. Streets have good lighting. Very close to bars and restaurants.
Brightleaf is essentially the (very small) area between downtown and Duke's East Campus. It's fairly walkable, has a few good restaraunts, and is about as central in Durham as one can get. It's not the most scenic neighborhood, but if you want to run or walk, you're very close the ATT, or the leafier neighborhoods of Trinity Park.
Love the neighbourhood, very lively filled with the newest restaurants and bars
Really love the brightleaf area. Lots of restaurants and bars. New spots popping up! Very close to downtown.
Love it - Durham is growing very fast and it's nice to be close to it!
Brightleaf tends to be pretty quiet; It is almost entirely made up of West Village. It's walkable to good dining options and is central to Durham as a whole. Not a lot of "neighborliness" however. Most people seem to be working professionals with a few young families.
Fantastic neighborhood - fun to live down town. Very walkable to all bars and restaurants. Close enough to Ninth Street.
Downtown is a very social place with a lot of bars and restaurants. A lot of graduate students live in this complex and the complex is very secure with access cards requirement in every building.
