Good for the money

The Wanamaker is a good deal for the cost. Make sure that you have seen the apartment as some are recently renovated and others (like) mine are fairly dated and/or the finishings are not very nice.
Also, there is no hot water on lower floors from 7am - 10am although - BE WARNED. Management is working on the issue, but it has been taking months and there is no date for a solution as of right now.

Perfect for 2 Years

Great location. I love many of the doorman and have had a wonderful experience. The apartment could use to be updated a bit but otherwise it has been perfect. My one complaint is that we are not allowed to sublet over the summer.

Wanamaker House

As always when looking at a condo building, keep in mind that units are kept up differently and they are nowhere near all alike. Also remember that you should be paying less for a unit on a lower floor than one on a higher floor. I live on a lower floor in a unit that is semi-updated and I think my monthly rent is more on par with similar units on higher floors of the building.

This is a doorman building. Every time you come and go you will need to say hi to two doormen. There are about 6 doormen who rotate. If you don't want to have to say hi to people every time you come home and find that too awkward to bear, consider not living in a doorman building. For me the trade off was just barely worth it, only because of the convenience (receiving packages, not needing to worry about safety) so that I can focus on school.

The location is really perfect- near Rittenhouse Square but away from the busier blocks that border the park, and a 20-25 min walk to Huntsman.

You will see Wharton students all the time in this building.

Wanamaker

I have had a great experience in the Wanamaker, although some of that may be able to be attributed to the fact that I am renting directly from the owner.

Wanamaker House is Awesome

Great apartment in a great location (walkable to campus). Apartments are good size. Access to discounted cable and wifi as building is a Comcast Community. No major issues experienced. If you are a gym buff, the gym won't work for you, but it has great treadmills and simple equipment.

Best Location in Center City

The Wanamaker is by far the best location in Center City b/c it is only a 20-25 min walk to campus and only 3 min from Rittenhouse Sq. It is great to have a gym on the top floor, esp. during the winter months. Don't be allured by the pool though - you probably wont use it. Doormen and staff are very friendly. It's great to have 80-100 classmates in the building.

Wanamaker is great

The one bedrooms are a little on the expensive side but the two bedrooms are a pretty good deal. They are huge 2-bed, 2-bath units. Location is great as it is closer to campus and 2401 than most buildings but still walkable to the whole social scene in Rittenhouse. Building staff does a good job as well.

Great location

The Wanamaker is a great location- close to Center City for school and close to Rittenhouse for social events in center city. The apartments themselves are a bit older, but they are very large.

Rittenhouse Square Reviews

Walnut street is very safe - there's always people around and it's well lit. The neighborhood includes all of the fun aspects of living in Philadelphia - tons of access to food and bars, nearby grocery stores/markets, access to the parks and the Schuylkill River Trail
Very close to fun restaurants/bars/shops. Close to the subway as well as the train station (suburban station).
Rittenhouse is the safest part of Philly. It's a very "happening" part of town—lots of restaurants and bars on every street. At the same time, it's right next to more residential neighborhoods to walk around in and explore. It's a great place to live relatively close to the law school but with a degree of separation so as not to get trapped in the law school bubble.
The neighborhood is both quiet and lively. There is so much around, but I have never had an issue sleeping or studying because there is too much noise. The broad street line is a 10-15 minute walk away and we are close to shopping, food, the park, and the river trail. Has everything within a 10-15 walk.
This neighborhood has everything I need within walking distance. Shops, grocery stores, parks, the subway and trolley, post office. You name it. It's very safe and extremely quiet, which helps when I'm trying to study. The Rittenhouse Square area is really the best place to live in Philly if you don't mind paying a little more.
I love this neighborhood and knew I wanted to live here when beginning my apartment search. The park is one of my favorite places in the city, and I love being able to easily access all the restaurants and shopping nearby. It's also an easy (~20 minute) walk to Penn Law, and the walking commute has always been a nice and peaceful part of my day.

Spruce Street in particular is great - it's a little south of the square, so is quieter/shielded from a lot of the traffic that the neighborhood gets, but it's not out of the way or far away. There's a Starbucks, a grocery store (Rittenhouse Market), and a few corner stores (Four Seasons and Food & Friends) within a 2-3 minute walk of my apartment.
Love the neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square is beautiful and we are so close to the more commercial areas like Walnut Street while not being in the center of the craziness. Plus we are within walking distance of public transportation including 10 minutes from the 15/16 street PATCO station. I personally think it is one of the best areas of Philly to live in.
Rittenhouse Square has a park in the center surrounded by a bookstores, restaurants, and a public library. It is open to pets and often has open art / food markets on the weekends. It is close to the Broad Street Line and PATCO. There are many families who live in the area. It is affordable compared to other major cities (NYC, DC, Boston), but there are certainly more affordable areas in Philadelphia, simply without the luxury of being so close to Center City.
