Great staff, inconvenient location

I love the staff working at Idaho Terrace - they are so responsive and work so hard to make sure all of our concerns are addressed! I also like the quality of the building -- it's clean, secure, and feels pretty "upscale." It's also pet friendly, which is a must for me.

It's not in a convenient location for the rest of DC, and about 7 minutes away from Wisconsin Ave, and I wish it were closer (both to Wisconsin Ave and to a metro stop). It also feels very residential -- it's surrounded by apartment buildings and houses, not shops and restaurants. Some tenants also have complained about noise -- a lot of AU undergrads live in my building (I have never had an issue with this, personally, but I'm pretty noise insensitive).

Overall, I'd give it a 7 out of 10. It's perfect for the MBA program, but if I were not in this MBA program I would not be able to put up with feeling like I was living in a suburb rather than a city.

Great building

I really like the building. Its in a nice area close to many different bus routes which can bring you anywhere in the city. The building is very nicely kept, and clean. It's simple, and those who work in the office are friendly and helpful. Its a great building for students or a building to start a life in!

Nice temporary home

Very happy living at idaho terrace for my last year of college. well kept, clean, friendly staff, quick and efficient response from service team, easy to get to, quiet neighbors, not enough storage within apartment though and can feel a bit outdated.

Winter Is Coming

Although you might think the building heat (that you don't pay for) is so high because of the large population of elderly in the building who are by far the friendliest tenants ... You would be wrong. It's just super hot and brings in too many mice.

Idaho Terrace Great for Students

Best choice for AU kids. Walking distance to campus - bus picks up right outside front door also. Great open rooms and beautiful views. Hard wood and clean appliances. Sunny and nice and clean. Management staff always on hand to assist. Very friendly.

Has gone down hill; but decent enough

When I first moved in the staff was lovely and pleasant. Any resident who has been here for more than a year remembers the former office manager, Johnathon. He was pleasant, helpful, new the residents, and incredibly outgoing. Since he left we have had a string on unpleasant, unhelpful, and incompetent employees at the office.

The location is good if you are an AU student, or take the N4 busline to wherever you work or go to school. But if you need the metro it isnt a good location for you. I like quietness of the area and there is a Giant within walking distance that just opened up and is very nice. Also a few great places to eat very close by (2 Amy's, Cactus Cantina, Cheff Geoffs, etc). The on-site Maintenance man, James, is really nice and always helpful.

It's the horrible customer service at the leasing office that has really brought down the overall review of Idaho Terrace. That and the fact that they seem completely disorganized when it comes to making necessary repairs to the building, including the desperately needed elevator update that has been going on for months and does not appear even halfway completed.

Amenities include on-site laundry and a small but decent gym. The office recently reduced its hours, so good luck ever being able to stop in if you work during the day. Overall its decent enough to live in, but don't expect much customer service from the office.

Pretty great!

It's in a quiet neighborhood. There aren't a lot of stores/nightlife areas nearby, but it is very close to a new Giant and a short walk to a Whole Foods. There are some good bus lines nearby (N buses and 30 buses) that will take you downtown. The building is older and it shows a bit on the inside. There is no 24 hour concierge but the office is open during reasonable hours. The office staff are usually very pleasant and helpful. The apartments are decently sized with lots of light. They are not upated, however. Would recommend!

Cathedral Heights Reviews

I live within walking distance of the university, and half a mile from a grocery store. There is a bus stop right outside the building. The neighborhood is safe and quiet.
An easy walk to school, and an amazing view of the national cathedral. Grocery shopping and restaurants are just a couple blocks away. The 33 bus line is very accessible and consistent. The only problem is that it is a 20+ minute walk to the closest metro stops (Cleveland park and Tenleytown metro stops).
A nice neighborhood with a Giant grocery store, CVS, salon, several restaurants, a Starbucks and bus transit. A nice area, though quite expensive for DC, which you will notice in the clientele that pass through and in the rent prices. Great proximity to the university and bus access to Tenleytown, Glover Park, Friendship Heights, campus, Georgetown and Farragut Square. Other parts of DC are more difficult to get to. Very safe area, though you will occasionally be begged for money or bothered riding buses (though this is the case all over DC MD and VA frankly).
Mclean Gardens is a great little spot, a few restaurants, close to grocery stores, and very walkable!
I went into this a bit on my apartment review. I love living in an actual neighborhood. There's always kids and dogs running around so it feel super safe. I like the front yards, trees, and gardens - definitely doesn't give off the "concrete jungle" vibe. There's not a lot of traffic noise and everything is pretty well maintained. There's some gorgeous Embassies near by which are stunning to look at. Great area for jogging (if you're into that) and right by American without feeling like you live in a dorm.
It seems like if you live or work at AU, this is a great neighborhood for you. Also if you work on the N2/N4/N6 route and want to be sort of tucked-back into the semi-suburbs but won't be bothered by college kids, it's also a great neighborhood for that. Mass Ave South of campus is basically all apartments for a few blocks so that really is the neighborhood. Not that it's not a great neighborhood if you're not involved with AU, but since I went there, most of the people I know around here are affiliated with the school.
Relatively peaceful, quiet, and green neighborhood that’s not too far away from the bustling and louder college residences or town markets. Very walkable, close to the wooden trail, and easy access to transit.
It’s been pretty safe - I think living next to Homeland Security and within AU’s campus helps keep me aware of any potential threats or safety concerns in ways that I wouldn’t if I didn’t live here.
