Station Nine reviews and highlights

- maintenance requests are answered promptly
- great place to live
- small gym
- a little overpriced

- conveniently located
Fine for a Fuqua student, not great value for money
It's fine if you're a fuqua student who wants to be around other students, easy access to Harris Teeter and school. Not recommended if you like reliable quiet in all parts of the building on all nights. Apartments are dated, as are the facilities (gym, pool, etc).

Convenient for Fuqua Students
Great price compared to other amenity apartments in the area - not great price compared to Durham in general. Nice and easy going staff - generally allow residents to do whatever they want. Great social life for Fuqua students, easy to get work done and socialize there. Apartments are older than the other amenity buildings but significantly younger and nicer than other apartments in Durham.

Overpriced, management couldn't care less
Overall Station9 offers only one thing - being ode to social activities, which seems to be important mainly during your first year at Fuqua. Apart from that, the building isn't maintained very well and the management told us to our face that "student will keep coming here so we're not afraid of bad reviews or anything else". For example, one of the 3 elevators in the building, servicing some 30-50 apartments, was out of order for 5 months, and until one resident raised hell about it the management did nothing to solve it compensate. Another example was that during the (few) snow days we had, every other building used those crystals to melt the snow in their entrance ways, but S9 did nothing although people asked multiple times and pointed on the safety hazard. Additionally, the pool has been closed for weeks multiple times.
The apartments look worse than other complexes nearby (e.g. Lofts, trinity, 605, West Village), and the location is nice mainly because of Harris Teeter.
In retrospect, I would choose a different complex because S9 is over priced and the management doesn't care about anything but getting new people to sign.

It's S9...
1/2 our school lives here which makes it great for catching rides, heading out somewhere with friends, or as place to meet. Harris Teeter across the street means last minute dinner shopping is easy and there's 20 or so bars/restaurants within easy walking distance.
The apartments were new in 2010 so they're getting well-used at this point. They're about what you'd expect at any mid-level complex, nothing flashy, nothing awful. You pay a premium for the location. Don't live facing the pool if you're bothered by rambunctiousness. Don't live facing HT unless you're left of the main gate (facing the main gate) because the delivery trucks come in all night long.
Would live here again, it's the most convenient and the newer places on either side are more expensive.

Convenient but could use updates
Station Nine is great for its location and its community as its where a large majority of Fuqua students live. However, the value for the money is not as good as some of the other buildings off of Ninth Street and those closer to campus.

Really convenient
Living in S9 is very convenient if you go to Fuqua because everything happens hear or near hear: pre-games, Tavern Tuesday, study groups, C-lead meetings. It is not the prettiest place but it has all you need, appartments are spacious and maintenance is good and fast.

Eh
The place is nice because so many of our classmates live here. Otherwise, its *that* nice, and the corporation that owns it isn't really looking to make accomodations or work with you on anything. They require a 60-day notice to move out, charge punitive month-to-month rates and are still student unfriendly when the neighboring properties go out of their way to work with students (month to month leases, summer accomodations, etc).

Overall - decent apmt
I believe the apartment complex is overpriced because of the strong demand for MBA students. You can get a much nicer apartment across the street at Crescent Main for about the same price.
Being close to Ninth Street is the best part about Station Nine; can walk to the grocery store and many restaurants.

This is where the magic happens
People say that Station Nine is the best place for single people. But I do not agree. I think is the best place for anyone who doesn´t have kids (and is not planning to have kids during their MBA). In the end, most of the fun happens here. This is a key spot for Tav Tuesdays, for pre games, for parties. But it´s also a good place for group meetings, I´ve done a lot of group assignments here, and a lot of club meetings as well. It also is very convenient to have Harris Teeter right across the street.

Convenient, can be peaceful or social, depending on what you seek
Station 9 - practically a dorm for Fuqua students. Convenient (close to Harris Teeter, Wells Fargo, and a whole host of other restaurants), has shuttle bus and Duke Van that brings students from and to Fuqua, a pretty good gym and definitely great for mingling with fellow Fuquans! Also a convenient meeting point for late-night team discussions since almost everyone lives there.
