International Student with family

The apartment is not the best suited one for families, especially if you have a kid. It's more like for people who would like to chill out more. I couldn't get this information when I was looking for apartments and don't make the mistake of taking opinions from people who are not in your exact situation.

You get what you pay for! I feel like some other apartments are more expensive and relatively nicer, but you are paying for the convenience of being close to other Fuqua students and to be close to Fuqua itself.
Convenient location near within walking distance to restaurants and a grocery store. For me the proximity to other Fuqua students far outweighed living farther away for cheaper.

Living on S9 at ninth street

Apartment is good. Signed only a 10-month lease. But a little like living within the Fuqua bubble on Ninth street. Would prefer to buy a car and take another place in my Second year a bit further away from ninth street.

Decent apartment complex with lots of Fuqua students. Management is very quick with fixes which I appreciate a lot. I generally feel safe here although there were a couple instances of car break-ins in the parking lot. Very thin walls in the apartments. My biggest issue is with the gym; most of the cardio equipment is broken and for some reason most of the time I can't get internet in the gym. Also the set up is odd where the gym space is one big box and sometimes it feels like there isn't enough room for multiple people. Fortunately Brodie gym is close enough. Solid location on 9th street near Harris Teeter and other restaurants/cafes, plus an easy commute to Fuqua. Value is fine as a budget apartment on 9th street.

Overall Great Experience

Pros: Super friendly staff and helpful maintenance workers. Appliances work great and gym and pool areas are awesome. I don’t have a car, and have had no issues carpooling from S9 since there’s so many Fuqua students here.

Cons: You can sometimes hear the train as early as 7AM.

Overall great experienxe

Pros: attentive and friendly management; helpful maintenance workers; great gym and pool areas; new appliances; as someone without a car I’ve never struggled to find a ride to campus since so many Fuqua students live here, walkable to Tav

Cons: you can hear the train as early as 7AM depending on where you are in the building

Great Location

While the locations is great, the network coverage is pretty bad and you sometimes have to come out of the building to get signal on your device.

Ninth Street Reviews

Neighborhood has been great. Haven't been commuting to school all that frequently for obvious reasons, but takes less than 10 minutes to do so. I can grab everything I need and meet with friends all within walking distance. Durham could use more street lights in general, but in terms of safety, I think 9th street is your best option!
Best place to live hands down. Next to the supermarket, so many food options and many complexes in the area. Near downtown and Duke. Great if you’re new in town because it is super safe. Perfect if you have a car because the only downside is that depending on what Duke school you’re in it might not be walking distance.
Ninth Street is super walkable and majority of Fuquans live in the area. Definitely worth it to pay a little more to live in walking distance of so many classmates. Plus the restaurants on Ninth Street are great, and a short walk (~3 mins) to East Campus to use the walking trail!
Everything is close: other complexes like S9, B9; bars like flying bull, the tavern, supermarkets like Harris Teeter or Whole Foods, East campus hiking route.

You can get to the school by bus (45 mi) or by car (10 min). Carpooling is very commom.
Neighborhood is fine. All the Duke grad students live in the same area so it makes for a pleasant student community, and there are some decent restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance.
Harris Teeter and Whole Foods are right nearby, and the area feels generally safe. 5 min from the highway if you need to drive outside of Durham. ~10 min to get to the WaDuke/Science Drive.
The 9th St. neighborhood is great because it is within walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants on 9th St. It could be better if it were closer to Fuqua and/or downtown Durham.
All the restaurants around the 9th street area are within 5 mins walk from the complex. The campus is an 8-10 minute drive. Downtown Durham is also an 8-10 minute drive away.
