Capitol Hill — 7.4/10 Rating (based on 28 neighborhood reviews)
Capitol Hill is mostly bars and restaurants- but if that’s not your scene there are also plenty of cute coffee shops and book stores to hang out/study in with friends.

There is also a bouldering gym (Seattle bouldering project) about a 10 min drive away. It’s hard to get to by public transportation.

Cal Anderson Park is a nice green space nearby, and the surrounding neighborhoods are full of really beautiful homes ($$$) that I can look at while I walk my dog and contemplate student debt.

It is lively. Close to bars, coffee shops, ice cream shops, restaurants, record stores, cinemas, art stores, bookstores and retail locations. It is close to Seattle University and Seattle Central College. Right across from the fire department and the police station so the location is safe. We are right next to Cal anderson park which can be unsafe at night. There is a lot of noise because of the bars all around us. It is a young hip werido community where you can feel like yourself and not have to worry about being judged.

Walking distance to everything. Central location. The homeless, transient drug population is the only negative part about the neighborhood, but that goes for most parts of the City now a days...!

Close enough to bars, far away so that you don't hear the craziness. Close to grocery store, gyms, restaurants, transportation, parks, but no convenient way to get to South Lake Union, where quite a few people commute to for work. Also feels unsafe at times with a lot of homeless people/mentally ill people walking around

Capitol hill is never boring. I love living near all the restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and being close to downtown too. It can get a little hectic sometimes walking home at night through all the drunk or homeless people but I've never found it to be unsafe or too loud. Overall I really like living here.

Lots of bars\ restaurants nearby so there's always a lot to do within walking distance. Feels very safe even at night since the apartment is on a main road which is always lit up and crowded. Small delis within a block and a big supermarket within 3 blocks. I haven't had to walk more than 5 blocks for almost any service.

Pros: Capitol Hill is a great launching point (transit-wise) to get to other neighborhoods, you have multiple options for supermarkets, bars, restaurants, and any other amenity you could want...
Cons: More homelessness apparent than in other neighborhoods

Can be a loud neighborhood because there is lots to do and so much going on. Great access to public transportation and grocery store options (lots of QFCs, but also a safeway, co-op, and trader joes not too far away).

Capitol Hill is definitely not what is used to be - which could be good or bad depending on the person. There are so many great restaurants and bars in such a small area, plenty of grocery stores, and amazing nature through out. It seems like a real neigborhood versus some other larger city neighborhoods, which you can't beat! There can be some sketchy people that frequent, but nothing you can't ignore or won't see anywhere else.

The Lyric
The neighborhood I was attracted to and moved to was gritty, artistic, and full of expression, with lots of local businesses and a vibrant, supportive community. Now, if I were to describe Capitol Hill, I would call it white, sterile and devoid of character. Inauthentic might be the word. I would characterize Capitol Hill by it's designer running shoes, fancy baby strollers, drunk girls passed out on the sidewalk in their high heels, and bros getting into fights on the street. I would characterize my neighborhood by the increased amount of panhandling, and by people who don't give a care for the baristas behind the counter, the servers who keep them fed, or the artists who make this community come alive.

The gentrification is REAL, it's lost some of its soul and prices are skyrocketing (along with the rest of the city) but if a true "city living" experience (living in a highly walkable urban core, diversity, arts/nightlife/entertainment) is important to you, it's still arguably the best neighborhood in Seattle... for now.
