Close to Campus

This apartment is within walking distance (10-15 minutes) to (old) campus and has good amount of space for a good cost. We have covered parking as well. We are also within walking distance of the Coventry and Cedar-Fairmount areas.

Strongly dislike

Everything breaks and maintenance never fixes it, just patches it up for it to break again 2 months later. I’ve been locked out of the garage where my car is like 5 times because the keyhole literally dislodged from the wall. It is cheap though and walking distance to campus

Terrible experience

The worst apartment experience I have ever had. Moving in, the apartment was disgusting - dust and dirt everywhere, broken doorknobs, sticky and dirty kitchen cabinets, the fridge was leaking, etc. The apartment management claimed that this was normal. They refused to fix anything until I finally threatened to report them to city housing. Next was the parking. They promised garage parking for an additional $50, which I agreed to. They didn't mention that the garage entrance is so tiny (only two inches wider than the widest part of my Honda accord) that only very small cars can fit. I was left without parking, until I had called and complained about this multiple times. Then they said I can park for free outside, behind a house across the street that they own. They took away this parking in the middle of winter with a two day warning by a flyer left on my windshield, saying there will be construction and I cannot park there anymore. When I called the office, I was told that "it's your problem". I had to call the police to get overnight parking on the street for two weeks, still not sure what will happen with this situation when the time runs out. Another issue was turning on the heat. The apartment would be at 50 degrees, and it took about 4 calls over 3 weeks, finally with a threat that I will be reporting them, for them to finally turn on the heat (which they say is included in rent). Every time I called, there would be a new excuse, such as that something is broken and they are fixing it, or they would claim that 50 degrees is not cold. Basically, this ruined my first year of medical school and made me hate living in Cleveland. The worst apartment management in existence. The only positive thing was that it is a 12 minute walk to school. I cannot wait to move.

Perfect location, management could be better

The apartment is only a 10-15 minute walk from campus which is perfect for Ohio winter! It's also big, has a lot of storage (in the kitchen, bedrooms, etc.), and gets a good amount of light. A lot of med students live in and around the building, so it's easy to hang out with friends.

The inside (and outside) has places where it looks like it could fall apart at any moment. The building is very old, so it's excusable, you just need to be prepared for it. However, because the building is old, it sometimes needs more maintenance than other places, but the management isn't quite as responsive as I'd like.

Great Location with mediocre management

One of the best things about this apartment is it is relatively cheap for how close it is to Case. There is covered parking and we have a good amount of space for the price. The management is somewhat slow and communication isn't great, but they do get the job done when it is required. One thing to note is the apartment shown in the online advertisements has a remodeled kitchen, but the apartment we live in and some of the other ones have relatively old kitchens.

Would not recommend

Location: Decent! About a 15 min walk to school, which is great for the summers/longer days/ and mornings. HOWEVER, note to walk to school, you would have to go down the Overlook hill, which is formidable, especially in the winter and at night (does not feel too safe walking the hill at night). Overall the neighborhood is quiet and very residential. About a 10 min walk to the Cedar-Fairmont area with decent eateries/Dave's Market for groceries.

Management: Probably the worst aspect of the Lakview. Sometimes I needed to place multiple requests for maintenance because the repairs would be poorly done. Management office is also poorly organized - they lost the fact that I had a positive balance and I had to remind them 3 times to check on this.

Parking: VERY POOR GARAGE - window panes are broken and have been covered in plastic for half a year. The garage door would not even fit an SUV, I'm sure - the clearance is less than 5 inches on either side for a Honda Civic. Lighting is also poor.

Apartment - Old building, so floors are squeaky and walls are thin. When I moved in, front door lock was broken, and it took 2 calls to fix. Heat is included in rent, but cannot be controlled, and so my windows were open the entire winter and it was difficult to control temperature of the room.

Lakeview Apartments is an alright place to live, but could be better

Decently sized place in Lakeview (925 square feet) with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom for $925 a month before utilities. 15 minutes from Case by walking up Edgehill Road, which is nice. Electric, internet, and gas are not included. $50 water charge is mandatory, but includes water and heating. Recommended with reservations; if you are willing to deal with slow management and the cons below, then it is pretty OK.

Pros:
+ Pretty good value in terms of square footage to cost (1:1)
+ Heating is great... sometimes too great. Included with $50 water bill (which is flat priced and unlimited use)
+ Two entrances (kitchen fire escape plus front door)
+ Easy to run to school if late
+ Mostly quiet neighbors and nice, scenic neighborhood

Cons:
- Biggest con: Management. They refuse to fix small things like chipped paint or doors that won't close completely because "it's not worth the time and effort." I got locked out of the parking garage because the locksmith changed the lock to a new one, and when I called to have someone open the garage, no one came all afternoon. When we found out our kitchen was the only one not renovated in the apartment building, they gave us the run around and never followed up. If I thought for a while, I could think of more small instances that add up to disappointment (but not quite enough to move out)
- Living room has no central lighting
- Kitchen is not renovated (at least in this apartment) and on the smaller side. Other apartments in the same building have bigger, fancier kitchens, and Montlack is basically not going to do anything about ours.
- Like many apartments in Cleveland Heights, stuff is old. The basement smells dank, radiators have gunk underneath them, windows are cracked and aged, kitchen door has a strong breeze underneath it, etc.
- Somewhat equidistant between school and fun (Coventry), which makes walking 20+ minutes in the cold a pain during the winter, and you have to choose whether to drive or not
- Weird quirks with our particular apartment (e.g. One outlet in the kitchen is connected to the light switch so we can only use the microwave if the switch is turned on, bathroom and bedroom doors don't close completely)
- Coin-op laundry machines: $1.50 per use for both washer and dryer
- People would steal packages from the mail room until they installed a camera, so watch out

Quiet and spacious, but could use some more sunlight

Management is pretty low-key but does respond to requests. I think they could do a better job of taking care of the building, it is an older building with lots of character. Kitchen has been remodeled and has a dishwasher, although not all units are like this. Heat is provided for, which is a plus during the winter! The position of the room does limit sunlight, but I do get some in the room. Also cat friendly!

Spacious and close to campus

The Lakeview is decently priced for the size. I moved from a one bedroom that was less than half the size and nearly $200 more. I live with two cats that love to run so they have plenty of space to wrestle and play and I have an extra bedroom for visiting family. On a sunny day I don't need to turn on the lights and the mix of carpet, tile, and wood flooring is great for pets and my feet on cold days. Having heat included is amazing, especially since there's a radiator in every room but the kitchen. They heat up the entire apartment with no problem. The biggest draw though is the location. About a mile from campus, the Lakeview is 15-20 min away (walking) from three different grocery stores and three social spots (University Circle, Coventry, Fairmount). Public transportation is easily accessible. Overall, I'm much happier in this apartment.
