Great location, bad management.

The location is unbeatable: easy access to bike trail, metro, bus, and the DCA airport. Extremely safe and clean neighborhood. The building itself is not bad, although it is pretty old. My apartment faces east, getting a lot of sunlight, with a great view of the DC mall. Drawback: train line and the airport are very noisy! By the way: if you are told the train passes by only twice day, don't believe in it! Trains pass by at all hours, many times a day; and the cargo trains are very noisy! There is a very limited gym on site. 90% of the garage parking spaces are sized for compact cars (if you have even a small SUV, forget it - it won't fit!). There are 3 elevators serving the building, but often 1 or 2 of them would not be working. The rent is overpriced; besides, everything is extra: parking space, pet fee, gym fee, all utilities, etc.. There are better and cheaper places nearby. The building has a very nice pool - great during the summer. The front desk and cleaning personal are fantastic! Management is not so good: lack professionalism. Case in point: upon move in, the internet cable was not operational in the apartment. After contacting the management and explaining the problem, I was told to request service from the provider (Verizon) and to later request reimbursement of the related expenses. That was done. When submitting a request for reimbursement the management declined to refund it stating they do not refund this type of service, and that the request was "misunderstood", etc.. All this because of a $99 bill! Aggravating, indeed - I felt like dealing with high-schoolers who do not know the importance of honor and standing by what has been agreed, even if orally. The money is not an issue, but the attitude is disgusting. For $99 they lost a happy customer, and have to endure bad publicity, like this review. Also, even though the deadline for paying the rent is the fifth of the month, by the first the management is already calling you asking for payment. I would not recommend this apartment complex, unless you are in a hurry like we were when we rented it.

Love Crystal City?

The front desk staff is amazing... friendly, attentive, helpful.

Other reviewers complained about the lobby area... yeah it is a little old, but I like to think of it not as ugly, but as "classy vintage." It's clean, at any rate, and how much time does anyone really spend in the lobby? People who are worried about the lobby's older appearance really have too much time on their hands for worrying. The apartments themselves are in great condition, very modern and new looking, and anytime you need something fixed, it happens quickly. The balconies are awesome, the pool is great, the rec room is fun, it's a great place overall.

Great building, great location!

Found this place on a whim and couldn't beat the price and view. Absolutely love where I love, and wouldn't trade it for anything! Front desk staff is helpful and prompt, the neighbors are friendly, and the in-building gym and pool are great.

Plus, you can't beat being a five-minute walk from a Metro stop: blue and yellow line at Crystal City!

Getting around Crystal City

Crystal City Reviews

41 reviews
Crystal City has been a convenient place to live because I work there. However, it is not the most accessible to AU. I leave work early, but I don't have enough time to metro there, so I have to take an Uber from work, but it's manageable because I only go to campus twice a week. Although that's a little inconvenient, the area is very safe for a woman living alone, and it's very easy to get to downtown DC. There are many restaurants and grocery stores nearby, as well as the Pentagon City mall, which is within walking distance. My only complaint is that there is a lot of construction.
Extremely safe and friendly neighborhood. I have gotten very involved in my local Catholic church that is right down the street. You can instantly tell the difference when you leave DC that your environment has changed. The people are friendly, you are not scared that you will get robbed, and there are no signs of blight. I would highly recommend the area.
Overall, Crystal City is a great place to live, and often overlooked when compared to Pentagon City. This is a pretty suburban area, with a mix of homes and apartment complexes. There are tons of restaurants nearby, and it's enjoyable since they're mostly walking distance. Added perk - Arlington Public Library tucked into the neighborhood between the main Crystal City area and surrounding Pentagon City area.
If you have a family it’s great, if your single it’s great also. Easy access to major highways and metro. Tons of activities and events through out the year. Safe environment to walk at night.
Generally a more commercial area, so it is pretty quiet at night. Crystal Drive is full of cool restaurants and bars.
There are always people walking around in the neighborhood. They are either working adults on their way to lunch, military, or families going to eat. Community staples like the library, public pool, and outdoor space are only about a 10 to 15 minute walk. There is a lot of public green space and the "long bridge" is a great place to walk. If you have an active pet there is plenty of access to trails and sidewalks to ensure that they get the amount of exercise they need.

If you can find roommates, it is affordable. Just make sure you have the self-control to not eat out everyday!
The neighborhood is very walkable and has very accessible public transportation. It's not somewhere you typically would go out at night since nightlife is nonexistent, but Amazon just moved in and there is semblance of that changing. It's great if you are active (many gyms, parks, and Mt. Vernon Trail Access), enjoy restaurants like Chick Fil A (one right outside my building), and want to be close to everything.
It is close to almost everything. Metro? Check. Mall? Check. Grocery store? Check. Place to eat and drink? you betcha. I feel safe walking around at night. The only draw back is that there is a fire station close by and you get to hear the wailing of the sirens. You get use to them though.
