Woodland Mews is Great, But Beware Single-Unit Owners

This complex is divided into two types of units. Some units are apartments managed by Woodland Mews itself, and some units are condos. The Woodland Mews management team seems great; however, I live in a condo that was owned by a private individual. Beware of renting from individual owners, because whether they are responsive and reasonable is honestly just the luck of the draw.

Woodland Mews Review

Generally, my partner and I have been pleased with the apartment complex. However, we do feel that the complex was oversold and underdelivered. Additionally, they have an unusual payment system that was not sufficiently disclosed to us. We only discovered this peculiarity when it came time to sign the lease.

Pros:

- Lots of space relative to the amount we're paying

- On-site gym, pool, dog park

- Located within walking distance of one grocery store

- Short drive to campus

- Complex management offers regular deals/events like free meals

Cons:

- Weird monthly payment structure

- Pictures on the website were not representative of the units (looked nicer than it was).

- Regular upkeep (like painting) is done quickly and therefore looks shoddy.

- Not a big MBA community

Woodland Mews

My apartment is technically a condo that I rent from an individual. The units here are mixed, some condos for rent and some apartments for rent. I love the location. It’s walking distance to the grocery store and CVS Pharmacy. My bus ride is approximately 10 mins with a 10 minute walk. I like the separation I get between my home life and school. I still use the rental office for emergency situations and they were very responsive the one time our water went out due to a line break. The gym facility is nice as well. The sidewalks are salted and kept clean.

Good, not great. Far from Ross.

Woodland Mews is a decent property. Management has been responsive. The finishes in the apartment are okay, but the windows let in some cold air and the washer/dryer are older. The basement is great for storage if you are bringing stuff from a larger house. The main reason we are moving is that the layout is very compartmentalized. It would be a great place to live if it had an open floorplan. In all, if these were close to Ross, I would probably stay another year. We have chosen to move to Woodbury Gardens next year.

Great Complex!

Living at woodland mews has been great. The staff are all super friendly and maintenance is very quick. They host 3 community events a month with free food that are great and there is a dog park and very active pet community. The grill area was just redone and the pool, spa, and gym are very nice. Also, the clubhouse always has free coffee, tea, and most importantly printing. It is a little bit far from campus, but there are two bus routes nearby that are very convenient and there is also a shopping plaza that has essentially everything you need on a daily basis (grocery store, UPS, dominoes, etc.). Overall a great place to live!

Living off campus

Living off campus is possible, but expect a 30 minute commute to school at a minimum. To buy a parking pass from an apartment complex around the hospital costs about $100/month as long as you can find a spot, which is almost a requirement for 3rd year because the buses do not alway run early enough.

The management here has been so-so with repairs and other issues.

Middle of the Road

This apartment complex is not new and our apartment had several issues with it for which we had to put in maintenance requests to get fixed. While we have a lot of space, the appliances are old and the temperature is very variable. We have a pretty high electric bill each month which I think is due to the variable heating and inefficient appliances/light bulbs. We also got our bikes stolen two weeks after moving in and the building wasn't very much help.
