Good but not great

The complex is really pretty and very quiet, but the management seems kind of disjointed and the units are noticeably old, even despite recent remodels. But the location is good and the vibes are solid.

Peaceful Place to Live

Overall, I've found Woodland Mews to be a great place to live. I live in the townhouse-only side (not the apartment side), and it is extremely quiet and peaceful with lots of outdoor space for hanging out, grilling, and walking my dog. I think it's a great housing option for families and pet owners. The units themselves are a bit old and do have some maintenance issues, but management has always been friendly and quick to respond to maintenance requests.

Townhouse

Townhouses at Woodland Mews, only issue has really been the kitchen that they updated which took way too long and was done somewhat poorly, everything functional though. Nothing else bad to say.

Good for 2 years

Woodland Mews is nicely updated and the maintenance is quite good. We rented a 2 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom townhouse.
Pros:
- The dog park is very nice and active.
- It is also great to be within walking distance of the grocery store and shopping center.
- Quiet and secure
- Unfinished basement is great for storage
- Also pretty spacious for pets
- Gym is small, but functional with updated equipment. Usually not crowded.
- Pool is small, but nicely maintained.
- Walking paths are very well maintained.
- Attached garage is very convenient in the winter
- Bedrooms are spacious
- Free coffee in the clubhouse
- Leasing office staff are super friendly and responsive
- Walkable to the Michigan Stadium (about 15 min walk)

Cons:
- Townhouse's floor is slightly slanted on the first floor. Floors are also creaky.
- Slightly far from U of M. Business school commute is roughly 7-10 minute drive. 30-40 minute public transit commute.
- The AA bus stop is close, but bus comes every 30 minutes. So if you miss the bus, you could be stuck for 30 minutes.
- Not the best-insulated home
- Maintenance team can be slow to fix issues (typically 1-3 days for non-emergency, but as long as 2 weeks)
- Jacuzzi/Hot tub is constantly closed under maintenance
- walking paths are sometimes not cleared in the winter and may be icy.

Great place to live

Woodland Mews is ideal for couples, dog owners, and families. We’re more removed from campus and the community is a mix of graduate students and adults. The community is very friendly, most of the dog owners know each other, and the management company is easy to work with.

Our townhouse is spacious and affordable, with an updated kitchen. The units are not new construction but they’ve been well maintained. It is not a luxury complex but is very nice for the price! It’s been very comfortable for us, and appropriate for a young married couple.

Good Enough For a Student Family

Very few complaints. The townhomes feel very narrow which can make them feel cramped, but that's more a function of the floor plan than the actual amount of available space. Glad we didn't need to get rid of a bunch of stuff to fit. Also thankful to have our own garage.

Beware of Basement!

We had to sign a lease without touring our potential unit and it was not disclosed to us that it was a basement unit. We do not get a lot of sunlight and there have been some centipedes. Management was quick to send over pest control, still waiting to see how that works. There were also humidity issues, but the complex paid for us to get a dehumidifier, which was super nice of them. I can't tell if the dehumidifier has been working or if it's just less humid now that it's cold.

We got the upgraded appliances, which work great, no issues there. Haven't had any noise issues at all. If you live here, I recommend paying for the yellow parking pass through the university. It's about a 10 minute drive to the lot and then a 10 minute walk to campus. I haven't tried to walk from the complex to campus, but it seems like it would be a hike lol

Honestly, the above ground units seem pretty nice! I just hate living in what feels like a cave lol and i haaaaate the centipedes :(

It Beats Student Housing

For a family of 3 with a dog, this is a great location. The townhomes are a bit dated and, like most rentals, in need of sporadic repairs. Regardless, we're getting more for our money than we would have at Woodbury and still paying less in rent.

Great staff, weird monthly payments, far from Ross

Generally, Woodlands Mews has been an excellent apartment complex.
Pros
1. More size for less rent. This was important for my wife and I so that we both had space to work from home during COVID
2. Responsive staff. They respond quickly to any concerns or maintenance requests.

Cons
1. Monthly payment structure. They structure the rent like a car loan in which you pay a fixed amount divided by 12. This is strange because if you only book 1 year, you actually get 11.5 months of residence, but the total amount is not prorated. So it makes your actual monthly rent more costly than the estimates they provide.
2. Distance from campus. It takes a city bus and then a 3/4 mile walk to get to campus, which is about 30 minutes.
3. Relatively few other MBAs. There just aren't many MBAs in this complex, which makes socialization more challenging.
