poor management

We like living here and like the area. Friendly people, cleaning staff and front desk. We feel safe. Have a wonderful view.
Management team however is Very slow to respond to requests for maintenance. Pool is closed often. No communication with residents about this.m Bummer.

unresponsive management

We are basically happy living here. Many good things could be said.
Cleaning and door staff friendly and helpful.
However the management teem leaves l lot to be desired. Poor response to our needs. Poor communication to residents especially when the pool is closed, which is very often. No notice given.
They may say "we'll get right on" but one usually has to make several visits downstairs to get action.

Westbrooke Place

I have enjoyed living at Westbrooke Place. The building is a bit older in architecture and decor, but the apartment units have been recently remodeled. My studio is fairly spacious and has a ginormous closet and in-unit laundry. There is a small gym in the building. The biggest perk of living at Westbrooke Place would be the location. It's on the border of Dupont Circle and West End, close to the Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom Metro Stations. The GUTS Shuttle is only a 12 minute walk from the apartment. I frequently walk into Georgetown, which is just over the bridge. My only complaint would be the management. Maintenance can be slow and management has been changing, but it's a great place for the price, overall. It can also be a bit noisy because it's near GW Hospital, so there's multiple sirens sounding throughout the day.

Not worth the (high) rent or aggravation

My first few months living in Westbrooke Place were fine. The apartment was nice, if pricey, and the building appeared well-maintained. But quickly things began to take a turn. The pool frequently experiences issues and would close for months at a time. Despite being told that I had control of the apartment’s HVAC system, the building prevents you from using the AC from October to May - and because they heat the building during these months regardless of outside temperature, I regularly had to deal with my apartment being 80+ degrees when the outside temperature was in the 60s. Fire alarms would randomly go off at all times of day, including in the middle of the night (on one particular occasion - the fire alarm started going off at 1:30 AM on a Saturday morning and stayed on continuously until 8:00 AM, because the building had fired the on-call maintenance person the previous day and didn’t give anyone the key to the building’s sprinkler room. When the building manager finally arrived, his response to our frustration was ask for sympathy for having to come in on his day off). The issues with the faulty sprinkler system led to two of the building’s 3 elevators breaking and it took over two months to get one of them repaired; the other remains inoperable six months later.

Despite all of these issues (and more), I would still say that the worst aspect of living at Westbrooke is having to deal with management whenever an issue arises (which is frequently). They are completely checked out, barely communicate, and are out of contact when you need them. Turnover in the management office is frequent and every few months you’ll be dealing with new people. The front desk people, the only ones guaranteed to be in the building at all times, work for a contracting agency and aren’t even given phone numbers to call in the even of an emergency. The building’s “emergency” line goes to an automated system and it usually takes two hours to get a call back. The management company’s response to these communication issues was to introduce an online chat service to “streamline” the process.

There are probably worse places to live, but the Westbrooke is nowhere worth the (high) cost of rent they ask for and the aggravation generated from having to deal with their management.

Westbrook Place

It is close to campus and in the middle of the red and blue line. The area is very quiet for living in the city and close to grocery stores as well as night life.

Love it

I do really enjoy living at Westbrooke Place. It is really nice and well run, and the moving process was really easy. If there is a negative, it is that the apartment is fairly expensive, but it is also on par with the area.

Nice area

The building is very nice, the rooftop being my favorite part. But my unit gets almost no sun.

Good but expensive

Modern amenities with beautiful balcony. Very responsive staff with concierge at the front desk and handyman on site. Very expensive for a small unit.

Great, quiet building

I have loved my time at Westbrooke Place. It is pricy, and that's probably my least favorite part of living here. That said, I love my apartment. It is 650 square feet, with a washer/drier in unit, new appliances, a small balcony, oversized windows in the living room and bedroom, and great storage, with a coat closet and a walk-in closet in the bedroom. The neighborhood is very safe (lots of nicer hotels nearby and a park) and close enough to campus to walk every day. It's also very close to Dupont (about 10 minutes walking to the metro stop) and about a 20 minute walk to Georgetown. The building is pretty quiet, with the average age higher than some other buildings around. Overall, love it - the staff is great, facilities are well maintained, and the units themselves are really nice.

West End Reviews

West End is fine. It's safe, there's easy access to transportation and plenty of supermarkets. But it's boring as anything - a neighborhood of hotels and office buildings. It's also overly pricey without really giving you much in return. As someone who had to move to DC on short notice - I picked West End based on location and little else - and I mostly came out of my time living here wishing I had done more research before signing my lease.
Safe neighborhood, great transportation hub with multiple bus stops less than a minute's walk from the apartment and a 5 minute walk to the metro. Some restaurants and bars nearby as well. Ten minute (at most!) walk to GW campus! My only gripe is that it's an expensive neighborhood but the apartment is competitively priced for the area.
The neighborhood is perfect. Ten minute walk to school, five minute walk to the metro. CVS and Walgreens just ten minutes away, trader joes just 3 minutes away, Whole Foods ten minutes away. There is a bus stop with a bunch of bus routes directly in front of the building. This neighborhood is also close to a bunch of other great neighborhoods, just a 20 minute walk to DuPont Circle and Georgetown where there are restaurants, bars, and stores. The monuments (the Lincoln) are only a 25 minute walk down 23rd street. There are numerous gyms nearby and the school gym is only a ten minute walk from the apartment. The area is probably the safest in the city and there is not a lot of noise over the normal city noise. It is next to the GW Hospital so ambulances going by can be annoying but not overly so. This neighborhood is great and close to every amenity.
I like the west end library and the l Trader Joe’s but other than that it is a little quiet and mostly filled with hotels. There aren’t very many food options either. It’s a close walk to Georgetown which is nice.
This neighborhood has everything a millennial needs - a CVS, Soulcycle, Sweetgreen, and great bars/restaurants. Highly recommend because it's quiet and really close to DuPont Circle and the GW Metro.
ONE BLOCK FROM TRADER JOES!! 5 min to Georgetown, 10 min to Dupont, 8 minute bike ride to campus. Bars & restaurants. Across the street from the dog park.
Hard to beat the Foggy Bottom area. Safe and close to everything you would need to be productive and have a great med school experience.
Some of the neighbors are great. It gets pretty dead very early here. There have been a few instances of intruders in the building.
