Unit and Amenities are fine -- Safety is NOT

I lived in a top floor studio apartment at Axis for the entirety of my D1 year. The unit itself was great: reasonably priced for its proximity to school, and with few maintenance issues. Everything is relatively new and feels clean. The major downside and the entire reason for my low rating is the safety of the area and management's indifference to it.

In the summer of 2024, my car (a Hyundai Sonata) was broken in the parking lot. I was hardly the first, and there have been many since. I spoke to maintenance, and they said there was nothing they could do. When asked about ways to make the parking lot secure, they mentioned ordering barbed wire for the fence that criminals had been hopping. Months went by like that -- dumpster divers and thieves routinely hopped the fences, broke into cars, and management kept silent. After this had gone on for a while, it got worse. My same car got stolen, right out of the lot! Even after that, it took over a month for management to change a thing about the parking lot. If you value your feeling of safety, and would like to remain in possession of your valuables, look elsewhere.

Decent but not safe

The apartment itself is a pretty standard one-bedroom with new appliances, and the location is convenient for walking to HEC and the clinic. However, the property has had some safety concerns in the past, including multiple car break-ins. While it feels safe once you're inside, there are occasionally sketchy individuals around the area. I do like the apartment overall, but the safety of the location is a drawback.

Great proximity to school, unsafe location

Many dental students choose to live in Axis because it’s one of the cheaper closer options to the school and clinic. It’s hard to beat the 10 minute walk over (the parking lot for students who drive is about a 10 minute walk from school). There is a small gym on the first floor too. However, the area is not good and there have been multiple break-ins to our cars in the gated lot, and I can’t walk around the neighborhood. I would say I am happy to have lived here for at least my D1 year despite some issues.

I highly recommend living at Axis at Ansel

What I like least is the surrounding neighborhood. The parking lot is safely gated but there have been a few car window breaks recently. The management, however, is very responsive and have added barbed wires to the tops of fencing. What I like best about living here is the short distance to school (10 minute brisk walk). Minus the few break-ins, the surrounding area is fairly safe. I would be cautious to walk alone at night though, as I would be cautious anywhere else. The in-unit washer and dryer are very convenient. The room was much more spacious than I had imagined from the photos I have seen. The management team is friendly and are quick to help with any maintenance issues. I'm not sure if everyone is just quiet but the walls are great at absorbing sound. But I do sometimes hear stomping or dragging of tables from the room above.

Axis at Ansel - Perfect for a Student

Axis at Ansel is perfect for a student, as it is still close in proximity to majority of the cleveland clinic buildings, as well as the HEC for MD and DMD students. It is very spacious and has decently large floor plans whether it be 2 bed-2bath or a single-bedroom apartment. It has gated parking and the lobby is well maintained.

Axis

I think this is a great place for people who want a more budget friendly apartment that is still within walking distance of the HEC, and it’s a safe walk. If walking isn’t your thing, the shuttle that take you right to the entrance of Samson pavilion is right across the street. I think management is great, I had an issue with a neighbor and they were very responsive and helpful in rectifying the situation. I feel safe where I am, I have never had any issues.

Pretty great place to live

I’ve been living at Axis for about 5 months now and I’ve loved it. It’s really close to Case Western campus and Cleveland Clinic. It’s very clean and welcoming from this inside. I truly love living here. The only downside is the safety. The neighborhoods around as safe so it’s not advisable to go outside at night. I also noticed a couple of car breakins in the parking lot when I first moved in but now they have a security officer patrolling the lot during most nights. All in all it’s a great place to live at, very clean, and safe once you’re inside the building.

High end but bad neighborhood

High end apartments but cars do get broken in a couple of times a year.

Run. Don't walk.

My car was broken into on 4 occasions over the past 3 years. Building management is incredibly rude, and will take any excuse they can get to make your life harder. Recently they changed to a new parking tag for their lot and 2 weeks later towed every resident that had not stopped by the office to pick up the new parking tag.
