Good deal, lots of space, a few issues

Parkhill is an older building that recently underwent construction to replace pipes and renovate some rooms. I got a great deal with my rent. (I couldn't afford the space and location anywhere else). There are a few bug and heating issues, but management and maintenance is very responsive! Overall, I'm happy with what I have for the price I pay.

Great unit, but the building could use some TLC

Our unit is very spacious and has a great layout. We especially like that our kitchen is separate from our living area, which can be a bit difficult to find. It gets decent light, but sometimes it can be a little dark. When we moved in, management provided new appliances (microwave, oven, and A/C units), which was nice.

Complaints about the unit are that our floors are kind of awful- they were redone from carpet to wood and it was done really badly, but there's not much we can do about it now. We signed the lease before they finished the flooring and learned our lesson that way.

Building-wise, the people are great and the management has been pretty good with us. We like living here. One major downside is that there is an extreme pest problem. We have had our run-ins with bugs and have taken precautions to minimize the problem, but just be leery about that.

All-in-all, we like living here. It's great having a concierge person downstairs almost all the time, so getting packages is never a hassle. Plus, the location can't be beat! It's adjacent to a major 16th st bus stop and blocks from the Columbia Heights metro. We adore it here!

Getting around Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant Reviews

The neighborhood is a great example of DC's diversity. Mt. Pleasant is a predominantly Latino community (primarily from El Salvador); however, as with most of DC, gentrification has started to take root. The neighborhood is generally safe for the city; however, it is always important to be cautious. Crime is primarily theft (breaking into car windows) and there has only ever been one serious incident that I've known about in my 3 years here. On the positive side, there are so many great restaurants for various types and it is easy to access the rest of the DMV area thanks to the bus and metro. If you enjoy walking, this neighborhood is great as well.
Close to bars and restaurants in Mt. Pleasant and Adams Morgan, and only a short walk to DC USA and other spots in Columbia Heights.
No complaints. I feel very safe and have had no issues. Can't beat the public transportation nearby or all the night life areas. If you are the type of person to feel "unsafe" simply because the area has higher rates of blacks and hispanics then don't move to Mt Pleasant.
Very walkable/easy transit. Nice mix of restaurants and shopping
Love the neighborhood, reasonably close to transit and easy walking to bars and nightlife while not being too close if that's not your thing
The neighborhood is definitely going to be one of the next big things in DC. Very convenient to the S bus-lines.
Mt. Pleasant is one of the best neighborhoods in DC. It is diverse, with a mix of old Hispanic families and newer, educated young professionals. Mt. P street itself has some nice independent bars and restaurants. The area is also adjacent to Columbia Heights, which has Target, Best Buy, etc. as well as Adams Morgan, which is very lively on weekends.
Wonderful in the heart of mount pleasant. Lots or bars and restaurants
