Great location and improvements being made to building
Great location. apartment itself is fairly outdated but management is starting to make improvements, starting with much needed new bathrooms. Apartment has lots of windows facing 16th street providing tons of light and gorgeous views of the city. Great size for a studio in DC, plenty of closet space. Nice front desk workers that know your name. overall not a bad building for the area.

Lovely Studio Living
From the moment I saw my studio, I knew it was a great deal. It's spacious, has a cute separate kitchen area and a huge closet, and is quite affordable (especially for Columbia Heights). The front desk staff are the nicest people, and the neighbor's dogs are adorable. Some online reviews complain of cockroaches in the building, which I have never encountered. My only drawbacks are that it is an old building, so there is no central AC or heating, and that you must provide your own AC window unit and pay an rather high electricity surcharge in the summer months (sometimes over $100 a month). A bit excessive, but with water/electric included in the rent the rest of the year, it all works out more or less.

Great location & Good enough price
I live in a studio apartment in the Yorkshire that is fairly reasonably priced for the building, but very reasonably priced for the location. It's on the border of Columbia Heights and Mount Pleasant and within short walking distance of several bus lines on 16th and 14th Streets, as well as Columbia Heights Metro and Target, Sticky Fingers, etc. The building is pretty old and there is some maintenance that needs to be done on it, but I've always had a quick response from management whenever work/repairs need to be done. Since the building is old, there are sometimes bug problems, but management responds quickly to these issues as well. My unit has hardwood parquet floors that I love and a walk in closet to be coveted, especially in a studio apartment. There aren't really any bells and whistles on this place, but they keep it pretty clean and even set up the basement laundry room to look a little like a park by painting the floors a happy green and putting in park benches. Most neighbors tend to keep to themselves, but are not unfriendly. Not an upscale place, but not bad if you want to live alone and are on a fairly small budget (for DC).

Columbia Heights Reviews
Regarding neighborhood safety, there are occasionally shootings unfortunately. I have never personally felt unsafe even at night, but realize others might feel so.
If you value quiet, try to go a block or two away from 14th street (which is a popular artery for fire engines / ambulances / police cars - i.e. lot of sirens).
Con: Increasing amounts of gentrification in this neighborhood is increasing rent prices
