Summit Hills is great

I have lived at Summit Hills for 3 years, and love it. It is convenient, the staff is wonderful and very helpful, and I have never had any issues. It is a fun community, and they often organize free events for residents, like picnics, etc.

Nice place to live

This is a huge apartment complex, and I guess I dislike the fact that it is that big. But otherwise it is often clean and have the basics of what you need. Nothing luxurious, but all works fine. I like they have a good gym and a lot of parking, including visiting parking. The management is nice and effective. Close to downtown Silver Spring, you can walk to public transportation.

Near Metro/ Low Income

As the saying goes, you pay for what you get. This is a building best suited to low income families and students who live on a fixed income. Don't expect them to replace appliances if they break down. And don't let the booking office fool you, parking is a beast. But the onsite laundry is clean. Apart from the lack of noise barrier in the older buildings, most people keep to themselves. The pool is not well maintained and I would never suggest swimming.

Great location for commute

This is a nice apartment building near downtown Silver Spring. If you work in DC, the it is an easy commute either by public transportation or if you are driving. The apartment is simple and basic, but does the trick if you are looking for convenience and a good price. There's a pool, tennis courts, gym, and free parking. Parking for guests is available and easy to find. I overall liked my experience.

Summit HIlls Review

Summit Hills has been a great place to live! There are several buildings as part of the community. It is gated with open parking and 24/7 maintenance (quick to respond). It's an easy walk to the metro, and everything Silver Spring has to offer. Overall, great place to live

Great space near metro

This apartment complex provides ample space, close proximity to the metro station and restaurants/bars, and responsive management. There is also plenty of parking space and all utilities are included with access to high-speed Verizon FIOS. This is by far the best apartment that I have ever rented.

Great deal

Summit Hills is a little removed from the heart of Downtown Silver Spring, however it is about a 8-10 minute walk to the metro and to the Blairs shopping center. Parking is free for residents and visitors! Although there isn't one large common space for residents to lounge, Summit Hills management has put together events and celebrations to create a friendly community within the complex.

Good place to live

It's a nice place to live with roommates, or as a starting apartment. It has a pool and tennis court, which I never used. They have a gym that is kind of old, so that is a minus for me. People that work there are very nice and work effectively. Lots of parking.

My Review of Summit Hills

My experience at Summit Hills has generally been a positive one. When we first moved in, they had finished redoing the kitchen and it looked gorgeous and modern. Any problems that have surfaced have been dealt with quickly by the building manager. The living space is a decent size and allows for a good amount of furniture to be housed within. The bathrooms are pink and black, a style popular in the 1950s but appears very outdated today. Water and electric are covered as part of the rent agreement and there is a gym open 24-7 and a pool open during the warmer season. There are events run on the complex throughout the year and they offer a chance to socialize with the other residents. There is also an option to rent movies for free from the Gate House.

Happy Long-term resident

I've lived in Summit Hills for 8 years, in three different apartments, both with a roommate and with my husband. We stayed because the location is great (right near a metro and walkable to downtown Silver Spring) and Summit Hills is the best value in the area for your money. We have plenty of space, free parking, a gym, a pool, utilities included...

It's not a modern building, but the value is great.

Getting around Silver Spring

Silver Spring Reviews

66 reviews
Slower pace, smaller and safer than DC, but has all the same offerings. Ethnic restaurants, shopping, nightlife, nature trails, public transit, farmers market. Very diverse, aesthetically pleasing and walkable.
There is a ton to do in downtown Silver Spring. The Veterans plaza area has great restaurants and bars. The farmers market on Saturdays is huge, and my favorite part of the weekend. Lots of young couples, and families.
I lived in silver spring since undergrad and have no complaints. Front desk does good job of not letting random people into building. You need key fob to access most areas of building so feels very safe
There is a lot of green space, and the walk to the Metro station is really nice. It's quiet, which we really like.
Right in the heart of DTSS so a lot to do and a lot of great restaurants.
It's only a five minute walk to the red line metro stop in downtown Silver Spring (which is only three stops from campus). As someone who does not have a car, it is in an excellent location as everything is within walking distance (although the bigger grocery stores like Giant and WholeFoods are a bit of a farther walk- about a half mile). The apartment is right around the corner from one of Maryland's Federal District Courthouses and a wonderful brewery that offers a lot of fun and safe outdoor dining options due to COVID-19. There is also a farmer's market in downtown Silver Spring's center shopping area every Saturday morning. The noise levels aren't too bad as the apartment is on a side street rather than the main roads in the downtown area.
Pros: Across the street from a park and quiet neighborhood for children to play. The neighborhood is good for a quiet run. 7-11 across the street for quick snack and coffee runs. 5 minutes away from downtown for restaurants, shopping and movies. 5 minutes away from metro station. Grocery stores and mall within 10 minutes.
Cons: Traffic. elevated noise due to multiple high rises amplifying outside noise.
DT Silver Spring is very much a city. It's more diverse that DC neighborhoods tend to be, with people from everywhere, of all income and education levels and of all ages and life-stages. This makes for a pretty eclectic place. There are three grocery stores in walking distance (including a Wholefoods) and the Silver Spring metro and bus station (a hideous looking monstrosity) ensure you can get anywhere pretty easily. The train line can be pretty noisy when the freight trains come through, but you get used to it.
