Convenient for WashU

It's a big more expensive than what you could find elsewhere, and probably slightly less space. But it's convenient to campus and management is responsive to repair needs. Strangely, there's no recycling in the building.

Not perfect, but pretty good

The building is nicer on the inside than it looks on the outside. Laundry can be a bit annoying because the machines can get loud and you have to make sure to find a time when no one else is using them. Further, there are a handful of loud neighbors (mostly loud kids and parents). Lastly, the parking lot can be a bit tight. Other than that, it is a nice place. The people are friendly, the halls are clean, and many of the maintenance staff live in the building, making service requests easier. As it pertains to noise, I would say its quiet about 90% of the time. The 10% really stands out, but it is certainly not frequent. This may be eliminated completely depending on your neighbors.

The Georgian

It’s only a 5 minute drive from school and it’s right next to Soulard, so I’m within walking distance of tons of bars and restaurants. Im down the street from a park, so I can get outside. And I have secure parking behind the building. I’ve never felt unsafe near my building.

Recommend living here

I have not personally had any issues with my apartment. I have made 2 maintenance requests and both have been addressed really quickly. Package pick up is easy. I don't have in-unit laundry but there is a laundry room on each floor so no basement laundry which a lot of people end up with. I park on the street for free and I have not had any problems but there is a gated parking lot for $35 a month. A great thing about the apartment is that I don't hear a lot going on through the walls. My friend lives above me and she even went upstairs and jumped up and down to test it and I heard almost nothing. I do occasionally hear music through the walls but that's not bad. I have 9 windows in my apartment which I love and the window sills are big so my cat likes to sit on them. I have had a few problems in that the hallway that my apartment is on doesn't have carpet yet because there was a fire before I moved in but they are working on fixing that and it honestly doesn't really affect me. Management can be a little tricky to get in contact with but I haven't had any major problems. Amenities wise there is not a pool and the gym here is super tiny so if you care about that then that is an issue. But also I am so close to forest park and I get to go on walks and stuff to the park and I can walk to the art museum and stuff which is nice.

Management Very Unhelpful, Bad Quality for Price

I hate living here. I have had issues since I moved in. My door was broken when I moved in and they replaced it with a door that does not fit, is missing a door hinge, it is covered in sharpie writing, and does not have a peephole. I have been hounding them for months now to get this worked out. You would think they would care since this is a very basic security concern. They do not communicate with residents--currently, we have been without our washers and dryers in the building for a week now. They did not tell us they would be replacing all of them, how long it would take, etc. so we have no method of doing our laundry. I overpay for a building in disrepair. There are incomplete construction projects all throughout the building that have not been touched since I moved in. Also, there is a broken window on one of the exterior doors to the building. On top of that, the doors to the building never close so really anyone could walk in at any time. Furthermore, for the first two weeks I lived here I did not have a key to the actual building because they did not believe me when I said the key to my apartment did not also open the exterior doors. Luckily, one of their realtors gave me an access code that is meant for property management only to use.

MAC Properties is awful

MAC Properties is an awful company. They did not have the apartment ready for me to move in, it's very hard to get ahold of someone that can help with problems, and they do not seem like a well managed property company for the amount of properties they manage. The security in my building specifically is minimal. All of the packages were stolen out of the lobby last week, just before Christmas. It takes forever for maintenance to fix issues. It's a headache to work with them and would recommend against any property that is managed by MAC Properties. They say that my building has a gym, but it's just an open room off the lobby with 4 machines in it. The laundry rooms are covered in dog hair, as was my apartment when I moved in.

Debaliviere Place Reviews

DeBaliviere place is a great neighborhood for WashU grad school students. It's very peaceful, full of pretty trees, and charming vintage apartment buildings nestled between blocks of stately mansions. There's always friendly neighbors out walking their dogs. And it's right next to Forest Park. Campus is about a mile away to the west, just a little too far to walk to class regularly, but the Metro station is within walking distance, taking you to campus in under a minute. To the east, the Central West End - full of bars and restaurants- is about a mile away as well, also easily accessible via the Metro. DeBaliviere Place offers the perfect balance: a peaceful neighborhood retreat where campus and bars/restaurants are still within easy reach.
Great neighborhood, one of the safest (I think top 5 safest) in St Louis. Mack's Bar is a great place to hang out with other law students for happy hour, and the neighborhood is full of students and professionals who work at the hospital or university. The transit options are great whether you're going to campus, the loop, or central west end. Also it's great having Forest Park so close.
Pershing Ave itself is very well lit, there are a couple cute cafes and restaurants but nothing too loud or crazy, and the street is mostly apartments that house college students so it feels safe. I would feel uncomfortable walking alone very far off the street, but there are always young people walking dogs or going for runs nearby.
I really like my neighborhood. It is quiet and very dog friendly. People in the neighborhood are very friendly. Its also right across the street from Forest Park which I think is a huge plus. Also, like I mentioned it is pretty close to campus as well. There aren't many shops or restaurants within walking distance, which I don't mind because they are all very accessible (only a 8 minute drive or so to CWE and the Loop). I actually prefer this because it keeps the neighborhood much quieter.
The neighborhood is nice- there’s a cafe in the bottom of my building and a few shops/cafes in walking distance. Otherwise it’s pretty much just residential buildings/houses with Forest Park right across the street. Also very close to the loop (tons of restaurants/theater/bars)
Great street, so many of my young professional or graduate student friends moved to this street after living elsewhere in the central west end. Safe street, gets pretty busy but can always find parking. Super close to WashU, Barnes Jewish and the Cwe.
I haven't personally had any issues with the Debaliviere neighborhood. Very few restaurants/bars but it's not far to the Delmar Loop or Central West End which both have plenty.
Quiet. No through traffic, only one entry, other areas gated. Nothing to do within a few blocks but convenient location between WashU and CWE
