It's Nice But Overpriced

Nice but overpriced; only benefit is the community since at least half of my school lives in the apartment building.

Good experience depending on where in the building you live

I’ve had a great experience living in a loft (top floor) on the far left corner of the building (if you’re standing with your back to Harris Teeter and facing the garage.) However, parts of the building can be extremely loud, including buildings facing the Harris Teeter, the pool, or the trash compactor. Choose your apartment wisely! Beyond that, they are always doing work in the apartments and around the building, but as long as you aren’t in your apartment all day or don’t need to sleep late, you should be okay.

Liking it!

I'm coming from NYC so feel like I have a lot of space. I enjoy the amenities here as well. Station Nine also has great Fuqua community.

Station Nine is very overhyped with less amenities compared to the rent they charge

S9 apartments and building complex needs cleaning, maintenance and to be more resident friendly

Station Nine review

While there are some parts of the apartment that are run down, the management is fantastic, it is a very quiet community, and the amenities are great!

I would recommend!

I love my apartment and management has been really great at responding to fix-it tickets, especially compared to what I've heard about people in places in Erwin Lasalle. Being walking distance to 9th st, brodie, etc is really nice, and the H1 bus to TSCHE is huge. Feels very safe, and while it's kinda expensive the amenities and location are good.

Note that if you have a pet/dog, the dog park is pretty small and on the side of the parking garage. It could work fine for your dog depending on size/energy, but I have a bigger dog and really only use it late at night for a potty before bed.

Lots of FUQUA students and I think 2 others MS1s this year which seems like less than other years, but lots of other MS1s in Berk Main/Berk 9 nearby.

Getting around Ninth Street

Ninth Street Reviews

264 reviews
Neighborhood has been great. Haven't been commuting to school all that frequently for obvious reasons, but takes less than 10 minutes to do so. I can grab everything I need and meet with friends all within walking distance. Durham could use more street lights in general, but in terms of safety, I think 9th street is your best option!
Best place to live hands down. Next to the supermarket, so many food options and many complexes in the area. Near downtown and Duke. Great if you’re new in town because it is super safe. Perfect if you have a car because the only downside is that depending on what Duke school you’re in it might not be walking distance.
Ninth Street is super walkable and majority of Fuquans live in the area. Definitely worth it to pay a little more to live in walking distance of so many classmates. Plus the restaurants on Ninth Street are great, and a short walk (~3 mins) to East Campus to use the walking trail!
Everything is close: other complexes like S9, B9; bars like flying bull, the tavern, supermarkets like Harris Teeter or Whole Foods, East campus hiking route.

You can get to the school by bus (45 mi) or by car (10 min). Carpooling is very commom.
Neighborhood is fine. All the Duke grad students live in the same area so it makes for a pleasant student community, and there are some decent restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance.
Harris Teeter and Whole Foods are right nearby, and the area feels generally safe. 5 min from the highway if you need to drive outside of Durham. ~10 min to get to the WaDuke/Science Drive.
The 9th St. neighborhood is great because it is within walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants on 9th St. It could be better if it were closer to Fuqua and/or downtown Durham.
All the restaurants around the 9th street area are within 5 mins walk from the complex. The campus is an 8-10 minute drive. Downtown Durham is also an 8-10 minute drive away.
