A bit of a hike but worth the trip!
Living in Shaker Heights puts you slightly further away from the med school (I have about a ~15 drive to class in the morning / pay for a parking spot at Veale). That said the building is great - had new carpet put in when I started, dishwasher, plenty of light for studying, between 800-900 square feet one bedroom. VERY well heated in the winter, so even Californians won't be cold (and heat is included in rent). Have had occasional issues with shower or water pressure but all were repaired within 24 hours of calling. No critters other than a rare cockroach. TONS OF CLOSET SPACE - 2 for clothes, full walk-in with the kitchen, and a closet for the bathroom. Good warm shower water with good water pressure. Building allows dogs and cats. Covered parking with a designated spot was a huge plus, as I don't have to spend a ton of time cleaning my car in the winter. Right next to Shaker Square which has a Dave's for groceries, movie theater, Dewey's coffee, and great brunch spots. There's an RTA stop right in the square that drops right in front of the med school as an alternative to driving. Also if you're from the area, it takes about half the time to get to 90 vs. Cleveland Heights, so for me it makes driving home to see family much more convenient. Full disclosure that there aren't many students / young professionals, so you will probably go to Cleveland Heights more often to see friends, but can be a great fit!
