Good for the price.

Harwood flooring. Renovated old building. TINY kitchen. Nice apt for the price. No A/C. Downstairs laundry.

Mediocre

It is honestly, not the best place in Cleveland to live. It is a very old apartment building and there are lots of problems. The elevators stop working frequently. Putting in work orders is futile, and workers are not always reliable. The only pro to living here is that it is safe and secure.

Quaint Apartments next to Shaker Square

As a current resident of Shaker Town House, I recommend this as a great area to live, especially if you are interested in living alone. Shaker Square is a safe neighborhood with shops, a grocery store, a movie theatre, and many restaurants in walking distance. There is also an RTA train and bus station across the street for easy access to public transportation. The being said, if you are a CWRU student, you will need a car as it is about a 10 minute drive to campus. The apartment units themselves are well kept, with wood floors, good amount of natural sunlight, and plenty of closet space. The bedroom, living room and bathroom are a nice size, however the kitchen is a little small so I would not recommend for avid chefs. There is also no dishwasher, which I have found to be an inconvenience. The maintenance and leasing staff to be pleasant and I have not had any trouble with work orders or requests. The complex is cat friendly. There is a small gym in the adjacent building, however I would definitely supplement this with a 121 membership or go to Veale, as it is really only good for a quick cardio workout. The laundry facilities are on the first floor, and are clean and well kept. Steam heat is included in the rent, which can get very expensive in Cleveland so make sure whatever complex you choose offers this amenity. Parking is on site, there are covered and surface options for a 40 or 50 dollar fee, or street parking in Shaker Heights is free (unlike Cleveland Heights). While Shaker Heights is not the most common area for students to live, it is great if you are looking for lower rent prices, an adorable town center, and a little bit of distance between your professional and personal life.

It's okay

It's a bit far from campus but close to shaker square which means easy shopping and movies and good food. Also convenient for taking RTA to school because 48 stops in front of school and in front of apartment (basically). In terms of the apartments the kitchens are not the biggest but they're manageable. The maintenance is terrible though unless it's an emergency. So if it's just something unsightly you'll probably have to live with it a while

Shaker Square is a great place to live!

This apartment is conveniently located ~8-10 minute drive to school. Although the building is older, the insides are kept up very well. It is spacious and affordable! The staff are also great, very helpful with any minor problems that come up. Plus, it is a 2 minute walk to Shaker Square which has a grocery store, a movie theater, banks, dry cleaners, and tons of restaurants. Also the closet space is ample.

Old building, dangerous location

The building is what you'd expect for something so affordable. The water temperature and radiators are inconsistent at times, but that doesn't bother us much. We had new appliances waiting for us when we moved in, which is great.

The real problem is the location. When we moved in the parking garage was under construction so we had to park down the street in a parking lot. Within two weeks my fiancee's car got broken into. This didn't surprise us because this building is up against one of Cleveland's ghetto hot spots. One of us has a parking spot now, so our risk is halved (though still higher than it would be somewhere closer to campus).

To their credit, management offered to give us a rent credit for the amount of our insurance deductible. So if you can put up with the neighborhood, this apartment building could be good for you.

It's a 10 minute drive, without traffic, to the medical school.
