Manor Apartments- Coventry

I have a beautiful, spacious one-bedroom in a great location (Coventry Village) for a great price. Management and maintenance are very responsive and helpful. It is a rather old building and may not be ideal for people who are looking for a very modern place to live, but I love it here.

Good location and good value - Manor 302

This is in Coventry right around the corner from Chipotle. The location is really great for social stuff because it's close to where a lot of other students live and right around the corner from bars on Coventry. Coventry is a relatively safe neighborhood, but of course you should keep your eyes open wherever you are. The best thing about the location is that I can bike to school in 10-15 minutes on a pretty safe route, or I can take the free shuttle provided by Case that runs directly in front of my building on Euclid Heights. This is a great value because I don't have to pay for parking at school, which is expensive. This is true for many of the other similar apartment buildings that line Euclid Heights blvd.

Another great feature is parking, but this won't be true in every case. We were lucky to be able to work out having two parking spaces included in our rent. One of them is a covered spot with an automatic garage door and the other is in a city lot adjacent to the building. My wife drives to work, so she uses the covered spot, and I don't drive to school so I took the lot spot. This is rare, and even other apartments in our building don't have this. It's best to negotiate parking with management.

The apartment itself is old and is not in the best condition, but for what it costs it's a good value. It has wood floors that are not in great condition, and the walls are plaster. Since we are on the top floor it has a vaulted ceiling in the living room and a large bay window facing Euclid Heights. There is no elevator, so the four-story climb is somewhat inconvenient. There are four laundry machines in the basement that are well-kept, but they cost $3 per load ($1.50 to wash and $1.50 to dry) which quickly adds up. I also store my bike in the utility room in the basement and it is has been safe.

The apartment has radiator heat in each room that is controlled by the management. The upside is that you don't pay for heat, and in any case it has kept us very very warm all winter. It gets hot in the summer so you will need at least one window AC unit, which can add some to your electricity bill, but if you use it sparingly it's not much. Water is also included in the rent.

Gas is provided by Dominion and is usually no more than $20 per month, and electricity through the Illuminating Company is usually less. The wiring is very old, and too much power use can cause a short.

The layout of the apartment is alright. Some parts are awkward - the bathroom is small and the kitchen is small. There is only one power outlet in the dining room. There are a decent amount of closets, but don't plan on tons of extra storage. The entrance door is large, but we were unable to get one large piece of furniture in because of the narrow hallway inside the entrance.

AZ Management purchased the building after we moved in, and they have been adequate as far as management goes. Sometimes they don't respond to your issues right away, and other times have been less than trustworthy, but they have made improvements to the building and are very good about clearing snow from the driveways in the winter.

Overall, for the price you pay and the size and location of the apartment, this is a great value.
