Roomy Duplex in Grad Student friendly area

I found my current roommates on Craigslist, and I love this apartment! Plenty of room for all 3 of us, even with each of us having to set up at-home office spaces for Zoom academy. The landlord is an independent owner, but very responsive and commits to doing an improvement on the property each summer (last summer we got a brand new stove/oven!). The neighborhood is quiet, pet friendly, and within walking distance to shops and restaurants in Coventry Village. I highly recommend the area.

DO NOT LIVE HERE

There weren't many reviews on this property last year so I figured I'd try it out and it was the worst experience -- I moved out in November because it was so bad. Dawn (leasing agent) is untrustworthy, claiming that there's concrete under the wood so sound doesn't travel etc. but you can hear EVERY STEP of the person above you, what shows they watch, when they wake up in the morning, when they shower, when their cat meows, etc. That wasn't the breaking point for me, but what happened was the person living below me was unstable and would get so angry when I walked around my own apartment (with slippers, etc.) and they ended up being very threatening and after numerous issues I felt so unsafe I had to call the police and not even sleep at home. I had to move out during exam week. The landlords fleeced me for all I was worth and were inflexible and did absolutely nothing despite my numerous requests to help deescalate things along the way. It was clear based off their questioning that they believed I was some trashy college brat throwing parties and disturbing the man below me, rather than the truth which is that I would barely spend time at home and when I did I would tiptoe out of fear. I literally hurt my back from walking on my toes for months. In the end, they said they had "no moral or legal" reasons to let me out of my lease-- the moral part is ridiculous-- and I had to sublease my apartment or else they were going to make me pay 7 more months of rent and lose my hefty security deposit. The experience left me afraid and angry and screwed over, all while I was trying to adjust and explore Cleveland. If this doesn't faze you, it's also worth knowing that they are extremely unresponsive to maintenance requests and will pretend they are going to come and fulfill requests but if you don't harass them then it will never get done (and sometimes it still doesn't). I would never set foot in that apartment again and I strongly advise you to never consider even viewing an apartment under Zipkin properties.

Good management, OK apartments

Management is good
Building is fairly new for the area (1950s) however it lacks elevator
Spacious
Has weird windows, therefore could have more light
Noisy, since is located at the intersection of two major streets and unfortunately very close to fire station.
Nice kitchen
Top floor
Shared laundry area: ok, machines are rather old, sometimes busy, however coins are not required
