Verano Place
Living on campus is really convenient especially for 1st and 2nd year. There is a shuttle that will take you to the medical school for free. If you don't want to take the shuttle, you can sign up for sustainable parking through the UCI transportation office to get free parking at the medical school since you live on campus. The housing rates especially for the unit that I got is unbeatable relative to what you can find off-campus. I pay $550/month for a 1 bedroom in a 2-bedroom 1 bath apartment shared with another UCI grad student. The apt is close to the ARC and many grocery stores. Parking is not a big issue to find. However, I think it might be harder to get placed into grad housing nowadays as a medical student since you do not receive first priority unless you are in PRIME or MD/PhD. But if you are interested, I would advise putting yourself on the waitlist and spaces will eventually open up. I continued to live on-campus at the main UCI campus even during 3rd and 4th year to save money. Commuting to UCIMC is painless as you are going against traffic when you need to be at UCIMC during the day time for most of your rotations. From my UCI apt, it takes me approximately 20 minutes to get to UCIMC and about 25-30 minutes to get to Long Beach VA or Long Beach Memorial. UCI Housing is excellent in terms of fixing any issues that you have in your apt. Their response time is usually within 1 day. There are housing assistants available if you need any help after hours when the housing office is closed.

Convenient and cheap
Great place to live, especially for the first 2 years of medical school as you are close to the med school campus. If you are single, you may not get to choose who you live with and could get a random roommate, which can be good or bad. Overall, though, the on campus graduate housing has been a positive experience for me.

Verano
Great to live in student housing (cheap, close to campus), but really difficult to get as a traditional MD "non-guaranteed housing" student. You have to be really aggressive on emailing the housing offices to get a spot.

Obtaining on campus housing
Difficult to obtain and maintain on campus housing for non “guaranteed” graduate students, which includes MBA students. If you are lucky enough to get on campus housing, it is great, but it is really hard to get this and difficult to get in a timely manner before the start of the school year.
