Great place, but you'll need to take public transport to school
I love that a free bus (DASH F), regular bus (910 silver line) and metro (E line) are all 5min from the apartment. They take 15-25 minutes to get to USC Marshall. On some days I even bike to/from school.
It is also 5-10min away from Target, ChicFilA, Chipotle. 15min away from Little Tokyo. The 7th street metro connects to Santa Monica (to get to the beach, social events), Union Station (LAX direct bus) and to Long Beach.
What's not good - There is an advantage to being in the Free Lyft zone. And for me thats not the safety or cost advantage, but the social network it unlocks. Students that stay in the Fryft zone mingle much more since they do not have to consider the cost of going to a friend's place. If you want to be very social, consider this. For me, the amenities and connectivity Medici offered were better, but not everyone might make that trade off.

Lucky Deal
I found the apartment at a good price but I had to be proactive and vigilant in keeping an eye on all opportunities and price changes.

Great downtown living but with more space.
Very positive experience so far. The Medici is basically downtown; it's right off 110 and a 5-min walk from 7th and Fig. The amenities are fantastic: private park, two pools, tennis courts with lights, lots of parking. The architecture is charmingly "Italian," and the fountains provide quiet, cool places for relaxation. The interior-facing units are highly sought-after, so if one opens up, grab it! Management, maintenance, and security are friendly, responsive, and chill. Diverse, friendly community with strong representation of African Americans and internationals; not popular with undergraduates. Rent is about what you'd expect for location, unit type, and building reputation. The main downsides are slow elevators, views that vary by unit, walking an extra 5 minutes on 7th and Fig to avoid the 8th street underpass, and the two gyms, separated by building, are smaller and older than what you'd expect given the other great amenities.

Great value
The apartment is a bit on the old side and that's why it is a bit cheaper than the surrounding apartments. With older apartments there is pest issue but nothing too serious. The management team is short on people so they are not too responsive. Repair requests can take up to a month for them to send someone.
On the good side, the location is great. It is within walking distance to the financial district of downtown. Close to the hwys. Under 10 minutes drive to the USC campus.

Decent and Close
Relatively nice facilities with good parking, but building is poorly run. Things breakdown outside of the apartment and do not get fixed quickly. No issues within the apartment itself. Nice facilities with lots of amenities and free covered parking, and walking distance from school. Cheap for what it is.

Love living here!
I was not sure where to live when I moved to LA since I am not from SoCal but found a studio here & really like living here. It is in a perfect location; couple blocks from school, near DTLA, near Union Station & about a block away from Grocery Outlet & a Smart & Final. There is also 24/7 security & key-only access to the buildings which is great because safety was a concern of mine. They have a gym & parking is included. The staff is great & they have community events for the tenants! It is a bit pricey but considering all the amenities, location & friendly staff I like living here, plus I avoid the commute & traffic.
