North Wood Apartments
North Wood Apartments offer a great price for the amount of space you get. I have a nice balcony and a roomy 880 sq ft. apartment for rental price of $1,800 (with in unit washer/dryer), which is hard to find at that price if you are in Downtown Ithaca. The apartment complex is in Lansing, but is on a bus route (32) and is about a 15-20 min walk from the 30 bus route stop at Target which runs more frequently. It is calm and quiet and you have all of the basic necessities. I would say it is ideal if you have a car (or are ok with a 30 min bus ride commute), are a couple with a non-law student, and want to have a bit of separation from the Law School/Collegetown/Commons area. I would think this complex is ideal for families as well. There is also a nice walking/running trail right around the corner which I use all the time to exercise. Some downsides, depending on what you want - the heating/cooling system is not central (built in units to a wall), the apartments themselves are nice but the outward appearance appears a bit older, the gym has only the basics and is a bit small, and the 32 bus route is not the most convenient commuting back from the law school, but is pretty consistent in leaving in the mornings.

Good space & value, but some things to be aware of
The place is wonderful, spacious, and surrounded by tranquil nature. Also close to Target and BJ's. There is one wall A/C unit for the whole space, so there are some issues with airflow when it's hot out. The washer/dryer is one machine and it takes a while to finish, and the bus, while quick and efficient, comes only once an hour, which can be inconvenient. It's also not social, but that can be a plus after busy days on campus. Other times, like going out at night, the seclusion sucks because it is difficult (and expensive) to get Ubers in Ithaca.

North Wood
I've loved living at North Wood. The management is fantastic, and it's within five minutes of the airport, police station, the Post Office, FedEx, both malls, groceries, urgent care, and virtually every medical specialist one can think of. It's right next to the highway but quiet; you get the benefit of a foresty and safe setting without compromising convenience. The main, if only, downside is that it's relatively far from Cornell: There's only one bus, and it comes only once an hour for most of the day, and it's not within reasonable walking distance. Aside from that, the location is ideal. It's fairly expensive, especially being so far from campus, but you get what you pay for with spacious, nice units.

Affordable and Convenient
The property is spacious yet affordable, located a 10 minute drive from campus. It's in close proximity to the mall and airport. Pet friendly. Bus stop inside apartment complex.

Peaceful Neighborhood
Great place for families or if you want a bigger apartment for yourself. A lot of closet and storage space. Bus stop within the complex with direct bus to Sage Hall. Very responsive maintenance team. Generally have move in offers.

Too Expensive but Comparatively Decent
I live in a small one bedroom one bath, studio type apartment. It is below ground so it gets very little sunlight and so much humidity that management had to get me a dehumidifier that is constantly running. Not the worst place to live but too expensive for so little space and for an apartment that hasnt been updated in a decade, if not longer.

Very happy with North Woods
My girlfriend and I are very happy with our 1 bedroom patio apartment at North Woods. There’s an included gym, parking, and there’s a bus stop in the apartment complex that goes directly to the law school. The same bus also goes to the commons, which makes it easy to get dinner and drinks on the weekends.
Pets are allowed, and the deposit for them wasn’t exorbitant. The apartment is fairly spacious for the price, and we feel like we got a MUCH better deal than apartments closer to campus, and it’s only a few minutes drive/bus anyway.
Maintenance is easy, and there’s an online system (including an app) for requesting service. The maintenance guys are very nice and get things done in a timely manner.
We have a dishwasher, but no garbage disposal or in room washer/dryer. You CAN spring for an in room washer/dryer, but I think we did the math and determined it wasn’t worth it. There are shared washer dryer units in every building that run you about $3-4 for a wash and dry.
Our one complaint is that the snow plowing leaves something to be desired. It’s difficult for people to get out of the lot in the morning because the plows usually show up about when people are leaving for work, and not before, so the lot is often a mess right after a nighttime snowfall. That being said, they’re good about getting it cleared after a day.
Zero complaints about the apartment itself, we like the layout and the space for the cost. NYSEG recently replaced all the lights with LEDs, so that keeps the energy bill down, which is nice.
