Quiet, good for families

I've lived at Avalon Tysons Corner for four years. It has good access to several highways: 267, 495, 7, and 123. It's quiet and easy to get a ground floor apartment. There are a lot of families here and as apartments go it's a good place for children. The nearby schools are excellent. The commute to Georgetown is not good. Very convenient to Dulles Airport. Maintenance is very responsive. Crime is more or less nonexistent.

Avalon

Location is good, rent is fair for area, apartments are variable, many have not been renovated and appliances are in need of repair. Gym facility is good, walkable to Capital One offices w/ shuttle and Harris Teeter. Never had a problem with management.

Cheap & Convenient

I have a 10 minute walk in the morning for my commute, located right across from Tysons 1750 office. Quiet compared to living further into the metro area but very relaxing when you don't want to deal with hustle & bustle. Main complaint is that Verizon doesn't have FIOS available for the apartment so the internet is pretty average.

Avalon Tysons Corner

My time in this apartment was mostly positive. It's very close to all Capital One locations in the McLean area (traffic was never an issue). On the other hand, there isn't much to do in Tyson's Corner. If you're looking for a rich restaurant and nightlife scene, try elsewhere. Management was responsive and went above and beyond to assist. My only real complaint was that I had noisy neighbors and could occasionally hear them through the walls/ceiling. Their rent increases are blistering sometimes. I got a reasonable 2% increase for my first renewal and a 10+% increase for my second renewal offer, which I declined to move to a cheaper area.

Would recommend

Really comfortable apartment, the office is very responsive with maintenance requests. Nice pool and gym area. Super close to offices, grocery store, metro.

Would avoid ground floor units (bugs).

Only other annoyance is little kids playing outside can be loud.

Great Apartment With No Commute

Management is very responsive and maintenance is quick to fix problems. There aren't any obnoxious parties and the community is clean. My only problem is that the first floor has pests (centipedes and spiders) and it gets loud/annoying when children play right outside your window.

Great when you work in Tysons

Very close to offices in Tysons. Walking distance to a Harris Teeter which is great for running to get groceries quickly. The metro is a somewhat far walk (12 minutes), but reasonably close if you want to metro somewhere. Walking distance to Galleria Mall. I live in an un-renovated apartment, so the kitchen and bathroom are outdated, but the bedroom and living rooms are very spacious. There are lots of windows and natural light. Management is great, all problems are fixed extremely fast. The rent includes a very nice gym, a dog spa (wash your own dog), and access to a very nice pool. The neighborhood is extremely dog friendly, mostly everyone who lives here has a dog.

Great Complex

This complex has continued to meet my expectations since move in. Management has been extremely helpful and attentive to issues. Maintenance is quick to reply to any issues we have, and has always been careful with our pet in the apartment. I plan on staying for at least another year after my term expires.

Passable Apartments, Terrible Management

The property manager at this property is just awful. I e-mailed her numerous times about problems we were having and never got a response until I involved the Fairfax County Department of Consumer Services. Even then, she stonewalled them for months before finally responding to them. Her staff is trying to improve the outlook here, but under her leadership, the property is mostly doomed. Maintenance however is on point, and if anything breaks, they're usually very quick to fix it. We had issues with our heat during the winter that resulted in us staying in a hotel a few times, but once they escalated to a senior technician, the problem was resolved.

Tysons Corner Reviews

Pretty good neighborhood.. family-oriented but enough young people nearby to be interesting. Most of the families in the area are "young" families (new parents). Short drive from Tysons Business Park, Tysons Mall, and Mosaic District, so plenty to do nearby.
It's not the city, but it's fast becoming a metropolis, with the Metro just 10 minutes away and the popular Tysons Corner Mall in reach. Schools are good, parking is still plentiful, and our particular complex is actually, actually affordable and relatively noise-free. If you pick the right side of the Rotonda to live on, you will never hear the Metro and get ample sun.
Tysons Corner is far enough away from DC to not be in the annoying bubble of people who don't own cars. It has nice wide driveable roads and retail is in huge shopping malls like God intended.
Safe, quiet, but not much going on. Most residents are 35+ years old and there are a lot of families. It's a pretty expensive area and consists of mostly office parks. Not walkable.
Close to lots of businesses, safe area, relatively quiet, walking distance to Safeway grocery story and Starbucks. Clean area. Close to various public transportation options.
I love living in Tyson's Corner. I'm close to the mall, close to work, and only a 15 minute drive to Arlington/DC (depending on traffic, of course).
The community itself is secure and close to the metro and grocery stores. All the basics are covered, with outdoor grills and a gym/pool available. The whole community is gated, so your car is separated from traffic. Location for convenient access to work is great, but there is not much to do in terms of restaurants or nightlife in Tysons.
No complaints about the neighborhood. It's right next to a gas station and a Safeway.
