Pros and Cons

It has been a great experience, and it is right in the heart of DTSS/next to Safeway. There are no in home washers and dryers. Each floor has its own washer and dryer that tenants have to pay to use.

Good housing

Generally a good building, though dated. They still use gas so sometimes fire alarm knocks everyone out on the street even though there's no fire. Great management team, although neighbors can be noisy.

Silver Spring Towers

Ok for students. Rent is however above the budget of most International Students without roommates.

Ok place

If not for the price point this place is far below average. The management staff is very unfriendly, and plain rude at times. The majority of the people in the building also have no concept on how to recycle. We have very distinct recycling containers, and still everyday people recycle items that are not recyclable, and put recyclable items in the wrong bin. These are sad times.

Great place!

I love living here! Any time I have had any issues, management is great at responding. Also, a wonderful location. Definitely feel like there could be more windows throughout, but seeing as one whole wall is windows, it makes up for that. I get lots of space for the price.

Little Known Gem in Silver Spring

You just can't beat the value of this place. It's one of the most affordable full 1-bedrooms I have found in Silver Spring. I live in a renovated 1-bedroom. It doesn't have stainless steel appliances, but my appliances are brand new and I could choose between white or black appliances before move-in. You will need to bring your own microwave though.

The apartment is incredibly spacious, and I have an amazing view of residential Silver Spring. This is the perfect location between my job in Maryland and events in DC. A ten minute walk to metro, faster if you walk fast. And there are lots of restaurants and bars I still have yet to try. I am a young professional and have moved every year since graduating from college. I have finally found a place I plan to stay for at least a couple years (I may buy after that).

Nice location

Silver Spring Towers is an amazing complex. Great gym and nice pool. It is very close to restaurants, grocery stores and other stores that anyone need, all in walking distance. We have a concierge 24h picking up packages, which is very convenient. Althoug I feel that people there are not very friendly, if you don't care about being besties with your neighbors, you will be fine and happy.

Good prince and location

This is a good basic apartment with good living situation. I like the maintenance and we have 24h front door people. I dislike the area bit, too many teenagers around in downtown Silver Spring, but otherwise it's a very convenient location. The building is clean, some staff can be a bit unreliable.

Getting around Silver Spring

Silver Spring Reviews

66 reviews
Slower pace, smaller and safer than DC, but has all the same offerings. Ethnic restaurants, shopping, nightlife, nature trails, public transit, farmers market. Very diverse, aesthetically pleasing and walkable.
There is a ton to do in downtown Silver Spring. The Veterans plaza area has great restaurants and bars. The farmers market on Saturdays is huge, and my favorite part of the weekend. Lots of young couples, and families.
I lived in silver spring since undergrad and have no complaints. Front desk does good job of not letting random people into building. You need key fob to access most areas of building so feels very safe
There is a lot of green space, and the walk to the Metro station is really nice. It's quiet, which we really like.
Right in the heart of DTSS so a lot to do and a lot of great restaurants.
It's only a five minute walk to the red line metro stop in downtown Silver Spring (which is only three stops from campus). As someone who does not have a car, it is in an excellent location as everything is within walking distance (although the bigger grocery stores like Giant and WholeFoods are a bit of a farther walk- about a half mile). The apartment is right around the corner from one of Maryland's Federal District Courthouses and a wonderful brewery that offers a lot of fun and safe outdoor dining options due to COVID-19. There is also a farmer's market in downtown Silver Spring's center shopping area every Saturday morning. The noise levels aren't too bad as the apartment is on a side street rather than the main roads in the downtown area.
Pros: Across the street from a park and quiet neighborhood for children to play. The neighborhood is good for a quiet run. 7-11 across the street for quick snack and coffee runs. 5 minutes away from downtown for restaurants, shopping and movies. 5 minutes away from metro station. Grocery stores and mall within 10 minutes.
Cons: Traffic. elevated noise due to multiple high rises amplifying outside noise.
DT Silver Spring is very much a city. It's more diverse that DC neighborhoods tend to be, with people from everywhere, of all income and education levels and of all ages and life-stages. This makes for a pretty eclectic place. There are three grocery stores in walking distance (including a Wholefoods) and the Silver Spring metro and bus station (a hideous looking monstrosity) ensure you can get anywhere pretty easily. The train line can be pretty noisy when the freight trains come through, but you get used to it.
