okay

It is an okay place to live but i'm not so psyched about how there are not too many private bathrooms. I also think the trash chutes should be in the hallways, that would be awesome. I find it laborsome to go downstairs and outside each time. It would also be cool to have affordable one bedrooms too.

Great experience

My experience has been generally very good at Birchwood. There are two Birchwood buildings right next to eachother, I live in 545 which is the newer building. Its about a 7 minute walk to the Virginia Square Metro (4 stops to Foggy Bottom) and then about 10 minute ride on to Foggy Bottom. Its also close to all the shopping/food options that Ballston has to offer, including a 5 minute walk to the Ballston Mall. The apartment itself is clean, spacious, and generally in good condition. The gym in the building is somewhat small but suitable to most fitness needs. There is also a small business center with two Mac computers and free printing which is helpful. Management is generally responsive to all maintenance requests. Parking is mostly under the building which is great for the winters and is affordable compared to other parking options.

About Ballston

Living in the suburbs and still finding a vibrant city a few blocks away is what Ballston is all about. Reach the city with great ease, and find some great restaurants such as the Tutto Bene and the Caribbean Breeze, or maybe the Taste of Arlington Annual Street Fair. If that is not appealing enough...

Getting around Ballston

Ballston Reviews

55 reviews
Ballston is a relatively residential area that is pretty affordable given it's proximity to DC. Good restaurants and cafes, easy transit, but no loud bars or clubs. That could be a positive or negative depending on what you're looking for.
I personally like being in Arlington. Everything is walkable and while it's not DC proper, it's very easy to get into the city via metro or a quick drive in. I've run to Georgetown in 20-30 minutes. There's stuff to do and there's everything you could need: gyms, grocery stores, shopping, restaurants, bars so close by. Ballston is a hub for transport so buses and the metro abound.
It can be a little noisy if you're too close to Wilson, Glebe or Fairfax roads, especially if you're right above the bus stop like I am, but nothing light background noise can't drown out; I sleep with a fan and I sleep like a baby. The public transport can't be beat, and it seems like a new restaurant opens every day. I'm interested in looking at houses in the area when I can afford to buy!
We are right across from Ballston Quarter which has a Union Market type of food court. The area is developing so quickly, very trendy and everything is within walking distance. Even though it's very walkable it does not feel as congested as DC.
I definitely feel that it's up and coming-- so much construction and many new restaurants and shops popping up! IT's very walkable. It's also pretty safe and it's close to highways, the Potomac, to DC, etc so the location is pretty great.
I love living in Ballston. I don’t have a car and never feel like I need one. Richmond Square is a block from the metro to take me into DC, and there are plenty of places to eat and things to do right here in Ballston.
Great spot for young people. There are tons of amazing restaurants and bars nearby that you can walk to. Also only a short metro ride to DC.
It's quiet but there are plenty of restaurants/coffee shops within walking distance and will be more when Ballston Quarter opens.
