Suited my needs as a student but I'm getting out ASAP once I'm working

Pros:
There is easy access to several subway lines, including the A/C/F/B/Q and many more. It is also very close to the NYU engineering campus, which is helpful if you need to use the library to print or use the student health services (although the Brooklyn location has more limited health care services). The staff at the front desk are so nice and helpful. Problems (e.g. lightbulb burnt out) are generally solved within a day or two.

Cons:
The leasing office is horrible and they will raise your rent each year. Some (if not all) of the apartments are rent-stabilized so make sure you read the NYC laws to know your rights. While the location is great for subway access, it's pretty awful in terms of restaurants/cafes/bars/fun things to do. There is Dekalb Market Hall, but that gets old pretty quickly.

Good for the time being

It's a decent apartment, and the staff are all very friendly and know us by name. The main thing that I don't like is that there's not really cafes/restaurants/bars in the immediate area, although it's not too far from DUMBO or Brooklyn Heights. I plan to stay while I'm a student, but am definitely planning on moving somewhere more lively when I have a job.

Fort Greene Reviews

Very neighborhood-y feel with easy access to Fort Green Park and tons of amazing food.
I've never felt unsafe in my immediate neighborhood. I've walked home from the Jay Street metro late at night with no issues - the promenade is well lit and tends to be fairly well-trafficked.

Although the access to public transit is great, there's not a whole lot to do in the neighborhood. The one good thing is Dekalb market, a food hall.
Neighborhood is lacking in nightlife/restaurants/bars, etc. Safety is probably average - I've walked home via the Myrtle Promenade late at night and I haven't had issues but it may feel a bit unsafe since it clears out late at night. There have been isolated incidents of gun violence in the neighborhood according to apps like Citizen. This sounds bad, but it is probably average for many parts of Brooklyn unfortunately.
Not much of a neighborhood. It does have a supermarket and a decent wine store, but beyond that I don't go anywhere in the immediate neighborhood. However, there are several great neighborhoods nearby.
Everything is nearby, best location ever!
Close to so many great neighborhoods (Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo, Clinton Hill, Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill), which means there are plenty of restaurant options in every direction. A few blocks from Fort Greene Park, a mile from the Promenade, and 2 miles from Prospect Park (so lots of options for running). A mile from Barclays Center. Almost every subway you can think of is within a 12 minute walk.
This is a small neighborhood so close to so many things. It is super safe and has tons of bars and restaurants nearby.
Great neighborhood. Lots of delicious restaurants, and pretty safe.
