Love these apartments!

Sure, this place isn't "walk out your door to a wide selection of restaurants and shopping." But it is awesome in many other ways. First of all, you're very close to 395 and it's only 10-15 minutes to get into DC (but you're paying the wonderful VA rent - way less than an address in DC!). These apartments have a shuttle to and from the Pentagon City metro in the morning and evening, making getting to work in DC a breeze. There is a great little convenience store onsite that has just about anything you can think of. Washers/dryers and a nice deck in each (except the top two floors) apartment, underground parking, a great rooftop gym, quick and polite maintenance workers, gorgeous swimming pool, very nice people at the concierge desk... We also have a separate den/office space that is practically the size of another bedroom, and a walk-in closet. And, as a pet owner, I love having a dog park onsite, multiple places to take my dogs out, and the overall pet-friendly atmosphere. Only reason we would consider moving is to get another bathroom (but there are 2-bathroom units in this building too). We have really enjoyed our 1.5 years here!

Opinion

I think that the Amenities are good although the cleanness of the complex inside could be much better. We have a free shuttle to Pentagon City metro so that is very convenient. The apartment is large and there is a lot of sun coming in where our living room window is.

Great Space

My wife and I moved here a few months ago and have very little to complain about. Maintenance is prompt in taking care of your requests. The common areas are kept clean. It's close to Shirlington and 395. It isn't close to a Metro station but they run a shuttle during the morning and evening commute.

It's just ok- good for the money

My apartment itself is nice, but unfortunately, the management isn't the best and the common areas are not maintained. The halls can be leaky and the fire alarms go off all the time. Overall, a large space for the money but I wish it was better maintained.

BLVD 2801

BLVD 2801 is in a great location, it's right off of 395 and King St in Alexandria. They have a complimentary shuttle that takes residents to the Pentagon City metro station, which is very convenient. The apartments are very spacious and cozy. They also have nice size storage closets. The gym is nice and the equipment is up to date. They have an great rooftop lounge with amazing views of DC. It's really nice to come up to the rooftop in the summer. I enjoy living here even though it is a bit expensive.

Katie

Overall, very positive. I love that it's a controlled access building. It's convenient location is wonderful. I love being minutes away from Old Town. Staff is friendly and even worked with us on lowering our rent for next year.

Incompetent management staff

Management company recently took over this building and have ruined a great place to live. It would be advisable to find another place to live as every reason I moved here has been changed with the new management. Packages also sometimes get "lost" by the front desk.

Overall, it could always be worse..

A HUGE factor of us moving in to this place was all the great amenities the complex had to provide. There was an awesome rooftop area with grills and lots of seating, a huge fitness room open 24/7, a big pool, a game room with a pool table, foosball, shuffleboard, etc. A movie theater area you could use to watch tv/movies/play games... etc. There were also monthly happy hours courtesy of the apartment complex, which in my opinion, was a great way to bring in the Millennials generation.

Once we moved in, we discovered that the rooftop was only open seasonally (END of April-September/October if we're lucky) which we were incredibly disappointed in, since we like to grill even when it's 60 out (GASP!). The pool was horribly taken care of - they leave it filled in the winter, uncovered, it gets gross, ices over, the lounge chairs get left out and the wind blows and sends them into the pool .. can't be good for them.. The happy hours stopped in July and never resumed. They did one or two "breakfasts on the go", but ran out of food before 9am and then they just stopped doing anything altogether! And now, to top it all off... the game rooms and movie theater are only open until 7pm, or you can pay to rent them privately (So no more pool games with neighbors after dinner!)

Overall, it's not the worst place to live. Sure utilities are added up and divided between the whole building, resulting in a ~$200 utility bill every month (for 2 people), but the location is pretty great as you are only a few miles outside DC, a couple minutes from all the fun places in Georgetown, Arlington, Old Town, etc. And if you lived anywhere else, it is going to cost you upwards of $2,000 a month anyway.. and you probably won't be getting the same square footage you get at this place (a big positive for me). In the end, we have decided to renew our lease for a second year, because it could always be worse....

Getting around Old Town

Old Town Reviews

36 reviews
I love the neighborhood. Although Old Town is in the suburbs, it feels like like a mini city, and almost everywhere I want to go is within walking distance. There are great restaurants and bars a few blocks, we're close to the river, there are multiple parks nearby. There is a Whole Foods a block away from my building, and it takes me less than 10 minutes to walk to the King Street Metro station. I also have a dog, and there are so many dog parks and dog-friendly businesses in the area.
Pros:
- Safe, nearby grocery store, pet friendly, pool, close to restaurants, diverse in income types and styles of homes, etc.

Cons: Section 8 housing, a lot of people for a tiny pool.
Lots of new development populated by yuppies and hip new businesses/restaurants, mixed in with pockets of section-8 housing and shady groups of people walking the streets.
Absolutely love it. So many friendly people and fun restaurants, coffee shops, stores, etc. Feels like you are apart of a community and very easy to meet people.
Public transportation is excellent. Really don't need a car. Holmes Run Park great for running and bicycling. Restaurants, shopping and malls within 5 miles.
Close to DC and other Virginia cities... good public transport... not as young and fratty as Arlington but still plenty of social opportunities... Love it
This is an awesome area. It is lots of fun to explore and a nice change from being in the city for school all the time.
Old Town is great! So many restaurants, bars, shopping, parks, and hiking. Easy to walk to all the shops on King Street, and super close (walkable) to two metro stops, Braddock Road and King Street. Commute to Foggy Bottom via metro is only about 30 minutes, and it is a straight trip on the blue line from Braddock Road to Foggy Bottom-GWU.
