Great rent controlled apartments

I've lived in my apartment for 5 years and have no plans to move. The apartment gets good light, is spacious, and the management is great. The only downside is no washer or dryer or in-unit laundry.

Great location

The chalfonte's location can't be beat. 10 minutes from the Columbia heights metro and 20 from Woodley park with countless bus routes it's a dream! The apartment itself feels very safe and people are friendly. Management is responsive to problems. I will say you are not paying for amenities really here, but location. Wish I had an in unit washer/dryer.

Great Location but the building/management could use an upgrade

The location is fantastic. You can not beat it. You are close to the bars, grocery stores, target, restaurants. The building is old, the amenities are non-existent. There is sometimes a critter problem. The don't fix anything just put a band aide on it. The hallways smell funny and the carpet in them is gross.

Great location, well-managed

My studio itself is not very big, awkwardly-shaped, doesn't get much light, and doesn't have a dishwasher, but the building is pretty nice. The management is friendly and responsive. I have had maintenance requests responded to promptly and without any issues. The best thing about the building is the location, which is situated at the intersection of Columbia Heights, Adams Morgan and Mt. Pleasant.

Paying for a great location

The apartment building is old but well maintained. Every apartment is much smaller in reality then what they advertise. If the apartments were as large as advertisted it would ALMOST be worth the cost. Very clean, no hugs, and the one time pet fee makes this a great building.

Perfect Location, Great Management

The Chalfonte is in a perfect location. I can walk to dozens of restaurants, bars, yoga studios, and gyms. I have access to three different metro lines easily by foot (Green/Yellow at Columbia Heights and Red at Woodley Park). The management is friendly and very responsive in regards to repairs, they're usually done the same day within hours of reporting the problem. I will say that my cat has caught and killed three mice while living in this apartment. But as it's an old building from the 1920's and this IS a city we're talking about, that doesn't phase me.

Chalfonte

You could not ask for a better location that than the Chalfonte has to offer. Steps away from 3 grocery stores, target, national zoo, 3 major neighborhoods, tons of bars restaurants and endless amounts of other conveniences. There are tons of the bus routes that run right by and both the green and the yellow line. The building itself is where I would say there are a lot of negatives. The management company does not update much of anything if you have lived there for awhile. The lead paint is chipped and there are a lot of other issues from it being such a old building. There are a crazy amount of critters, mice, bugs it is absolutely disgu

Mount Pleasant Reviews

The neighborhood is a great example of DC's diversity. Mt. Pleasant is a predominantly Latino community (primarily from El Salvador); however, as with most of DC, gentrification has started to take root. The neighborhood is generally safe for the city; however, it is always important to be cautious. Crime is primarily theft (breaking into car windows) and there has only ever been one serious incident that I've known about in my 3 years here. On the positive side, there are so many great restaurants for various types and it is easy to access the rest of the DMV area thanks to the bus and metro. If you enjoy walking, this neighborhood is great as well.
Close to bars and restaurants in Mt. Pleasant and Adams Morgan, and only a short walk to DC USA and other spots in Columbia Heights.
No complaints. I feel very safe and have had no issues. Can't beat the public transportation nearby or all the night life areas. If you are the type of person to feel "unsafe" simply because the area has higher rates of blacks and hispanics then don't move to Mt Pleasant.
Very walkable/easy transit. Nice mix of restaurants and shopping
Love the neighborhood, reasonably close to transit and easy walking to bars and nightlife while not being too close if that's not your thing
The neighborhood is definitely going to be one of the next big things in DC. Very convenient to the S bus-lines.
Mt. Pleasant is one of the best neighborhoods in DC. It is diverse, with a mix of old Hispanic families and newer, educated young professionals. Mt. P street itself has some nice independent bars and restaurants. The area is also adjacent to Columbia Heights, which has Target, Best Buy, etc. as well as Adams Morgan, which is very lively on weekends.
Wonderful in the heart of mount pleasant. Lots or bars and restaurants
